Does anyone know if 38mm triple clamps from a 1979 will fit on a 1978 MC5 frame.

Yes,
I even have a set on my 77 MC5. 78 MC5 250/400's have 38mm forks, while the 125/175's and the GS-6 still use the 35mm's Mike

I have a set on my '77 MC5 also, they dropped right in.
