Title: timing setting for 74.5 400 mx
Post by: Adrian Crawford on June 03, 2013, 04:08:29 PM
Would you be able to advise the correct timing for my 400 mx 74.5? I have a mikuni on it but although can kick her over reasonably its still a devil to start and read somewhere that timing is critical.
Thank you:)

Hi Adrian,

I have always used 2.4 mm BTDC with a Motoplat ignition. That is also what is usually recommended in the manuals.

Hello Adrian, If you retard the timing to 1.8 mm BTDC will help your engine start easier, but the trade off is loosing a bit of peak performance.

Just what i need. Thanks guys> I think i could live with less top end the thing is like a bullit once going. My arms are getting longer ffrom the acceleration whilst my left leg is like popeye from kicking her over. Not pretty.Thks.
