Title: Steel tank head gasket
Post by: Richard Colahan on June 25, 2013, 11:31:46 AM
Good day...
I'm restoring an iron barrel steel tank (V1225).
It is equipped with the "butch" cylinder head.

I can't recall where, but I read somewhere that NO head gasket is used with these heads.

Yet the parts book I have (002) clearly shows a head gasket, and the bike has one now...it appears to be aluminum.
So I'm a bit confused...

Can someone clarify whether or not to use this head gasket?
And also provide me with the head bolt torque setting?

Thanks for any help!

Recently came upon this question when working on same vintage bike. Did not use a head gasket...runs great. I believe the torque value is 22 or 23 ft. lb. for the cast iron cylinder. Good luck on your project. Harry

No head gasket on the cast cylinders. Parts manual 002 also includes parts for the aluminum cylinders.
