Title: New Berkshire Steel Tanker
Post by: rogerboardwine on August 21, 2013, 09:18:59 PM
I was awfully glad see this ride in on a pick up truck at Lake Sugar Tree. It has not been washed and is as I found it.
Let me know your thoughts.

And Thanks, Roger

WOW! Someone must have kept that in their living room for the last 40 years or so! Looks like a '70 or '71? Very complete and original and probably the best survivor I have ever seen from that period. very nice find. Definately one to just clean up and make mechanically right and service.
   Type at you later,

Wow! That's a rare find. Looks like someone had it set up for some serious riding. I like the rear fender supports and the rear brake return spring. Score

Thanks! I was just lucky. I would like to keep it as is but sorted out as a runner. My 77 GS6 175 is in similar condition and I have left it as raced. Something about taking the master link out of the sub-frame and the tape off bars turns me off since it is functional as is. I love looking at the set up from something originally raced. I love the 100 pointers too.
I hope I don't wear out my welcome with questions but with so many assembled and disassembled bikes I'll need some guidance.  If anyone out there lives near Southwest Virginia I'd love to meet.

Safe travels and Hang Tight

Great looking bike! You may have a treasure there for a lot of folks with questions about how they looked back in the day. If you would, check out the steel tank questionnaire available on this forum. Thanks, Hank

Hank, I have the questionnaire ready to mail. Will the link in this post  suffice for sending pictures? I hope to bring the bike to Barber for more scrutiny and to see how best to proceed with the bike from the group that makes it there.

Good Luck at the ISDTRR everyone and tell Paul Stannard I have Fred Guidi's chaps if he still has the helmet.

Hey Roger. I'm not the person to ask about sending pictures, I can't even put my own pictures on my own photobucket account. However , this site has guys who put pics on faster than I can look at them. How about it Gary, Dale? Can you answer this question? And Roger, be ready for lots of lookers at Barber. You really have a prize there. Congrats.

I'm learning from you all already! Under my profile there is a "cool" link to the pictures. I should have space in the off-road area at Barber. We're bringing a boardtracker replica of a Flying Merkel and maybe a couple others. I've always wanted one and I'm a sucker for Orange bikes so it is hard to hide. Please offer any advice you like. I plan on giving it a gentle cleaning and soaking with WD40 and covering it when I can stand it.

Thanks, Roger from VA

This has been the easiest way for me to post pics. Mike
Print this out and follow these steps if you do not already have a picture hosting account.
Go to Photobucket.com and set up a free account.
you will need to sign on each time you download a pic.
Click on the orange upload Icon then the blue photos or video Icon in the middle of the page.
Choose the location on your computer where your pics are stored.
(I usually download them to my pictures, which is located under My Documents, but you could download them right from your camera if it is connected to your Computer.)
Add Title or description, Optional.
Photobucket has become a little harder to get to where you can copy the link, so this is a little different than my earlier directions...
Click on go to library...easiest way for me, find the pic you wish to post and 4 links will appear under the pic.
Left click on the bottom link which starts with (img), then right click on it and select copy.
Open a new tab or browser window, then go to the POG message board and paste the code in your text on a new line for each picture, and post your message and you are finished. Mike

Dave,
I tried to email you but both email addresses I have were returned as undeliverable. Call me tomorrow, Wed. after 7:30am until noon and I should be in a good cell reception area. My home coverage is poor and I work from 9:30pm-6:00am Mike

I've been warned that tempting offers may be made and even encouraged to not bring it to Barber for fear I'll give in to temptation! I just want to make sure I don't screw the bike up before I can get anyone in the groups opinion of it and how to best have it treat it.
People in Southwest Virgina have nothing but praise for anything Penton because they dominated ridden my guys like Mark Maddox and Marty Hensley.

Sorry to go on but it's pure joy to having the signs I almost worshiped as a boy hanging here as I type.

Mr. Penton, Thanks
