Rookie question... how do I get the studs out to remove the engine. It is the mounts right below the swing arm. I figure better to ask a stupid question among friends whom done it before than get a bigger hammer... [B)]

Remove nut from left side, may have to use a drift to drive it out to the right side. Can be packed with dirt and corrosion. Go easy as you will need the long bolt. My '73 and '75 were both caked in crud.
So you are saying it just drifts out... what is throwing me off is there appears to be a nut shaped spacer between the frame and engine. I didnt want to break anything trying to drift it out.

That spacer that you described does screw into the case, and the bolt passes through it. On my recent barn fresh project bikes, I used liberal amounts of penetrating oil, soaking it for a while forst, then worked the bolt back and forth from side to side to help work it in. As mentioned before, gunk works it's way into case and makes it sticky. A soft metal drift, lots of small taps with a hammer and patience is the key!

That is the bolt that passes through the swing arm, if you are referring to the chain roller mount, just loosen the nut and the roller mount can be slid off the stud, as long as the swingarm bolt is loose, as it is slotted for removal. Mike

No it goes through the motor... going to take Dan and Doug's advice and lightly start working it. I didn't even attempt to remove it yet because I was worried there was a trick. The spacers really threw me off. Looks like I can have the frame at the blasters by early next week...
