Title: Skinny Rear Shocks
Post by: Keith Meatyard on December 18, 2013, 11:39:06 PM
Any of you guys have a tip on a brand and supplier of some rear shocks that would have chrome springs with OD of about 40mm for my Bultaco Sherpa T?  The originals were much skinnier than typical cross country bikes.  Original shocks on the Wassels look in the pics to be about the same OD.  I assume trials shocks didn't have to be as beefy.  So far, all of the manufacturers I've checked with all have spring OD's at least 50mm.

The following came as a Facebook post.  I'm sure there are other options available.  You might call Matt at Speed and Sport, Check or send an email to the Sammie Miller website in the UK, or call one of the Hagon distributors such as Dave Quinn.

Works produces this shock as shown where clearance is required. This is a gas shock with separator piston. As pictured these shocks retail for $455/pr. This configuration would work great for the customer going for the OEM look but improved.

Check InMotion Bultaco in England also, they are great to deal with, ship fast and have tons of stuff.

The springs for Progressive Suspension 14 series shocks are 39mm ID.

Those Betors will look similar when the bodies are painted silver.  The length is right, and the adjuster at the bottom looks similar to the original adjusters. Another candidate is the slimline chrome spring SS road shock by Hagon, again if painted silver.  It doesn't look like outside diameters under 50mm are made by anyone.

Thanks for the tips,
