Title: Painting a Steel Tanker Tank
Post by: tofriedel on December 28, 2013, 09:58:45 AM
I am looking for a painter that can do the paint on a 125 ST gas tank for a restoration.

I have seen some restored tanks that use tape instead of pin stripping, while they look decent it is not as good as pin stripping.

Who would you recommend to do the restoration?

Email me at [email protected].

Thank you for any recommendation.

Tony

Personally, I would pinstripe, it isn't that much and looks original, just make sure the striping is correct.  I have seen tanks painted beautiful then the striping is incorrect and that throws off the whole tank.  The black stripe goes completely around the seperation between the white panel and the green.  The white stripe has a 1-2" void in the stripe at the bottom of the tank close to the knee area. Stripes are roughly 1/16" but can vary as the brush stroke does when turning corners.  Paint the tank first, white knee, then green color, then apply decals, then Clear lightly then stripe.  Looks original!  Tape sucks and the only Penton that had it originally was the Woodsman Trials (Orange Panels), it looked crappy but it was original.  CIAO
