Title: Tank decals
Post by: tomale on January 06, 2014, 05:03:12 PM
Does anyone know of anyone who makes a decal thick enough to stand up to the abuse of a plastic tank.  I put a standard set on knowing it would not last but now I want a set that will not wrinkle the first sign of fuel in the tank. Any ideas?

Perforated tank decals work pretty good, I use them on my "86" Husky 430 Automatic.  A regular decal will bubble on a plastic tank, no matter what, fuel in or out.

Don't know what make of bike you need tank decals for, but for Maico & Husquvarna - metal or plastic, this is where I buy my decals from: http://mxm.co.uk/?page_id=25

Thom,

About 5-6 years ago, I bought some decals for my 82 KTM 250 from Tom Brosius.  They've held very well over the years.  What I really like about his decals is that they have micro perforations which enable the stickers to adhere better to the plastic.

I went to check his site last week and today under the Penton Owner Group supplier link, and I noticed that his site doesn't come up anymore.

Does anyone know if Tom is still selling the repop fiberglass body parts or decals?

FYI, in my humble opinion, MXM decals are the best decals I've ever purchased.  I see on their site that they have KTM decals (not penton) for mid 70s bikes.

Thanks,
John

Thom,

Isn't the 76 a fiberglas tank?  Most of the problems that I know about decals and plastic tanks had nothing to do with fiberglass tanks, unless, you pour gas down the sides of the tank.

I thought it effected the late 70's and later plastic tanks, which included every major brand.

Tony, yes the 76/77 bikes had fiberglass tanks but I did not want to run the stock tank.  I am using a Clarke tank that works quite well. It's just that the stock decals do not work so good on it.

I use a  custom graphics business in Utah that makes decals for motorcycles, snowmobiles, etc.. They use chemical and fade resistant materials that adhere well to plastic and fiberglass. Contact information is [email protected] or call 385-233-1090. It takes him about one month to turn around a new item, repeate items can be made in a few days)Originally posted by tomale
