Title: Steel Tank rear tire
Post by: rob w on January 13, 2014, 11:54:23 AM
Hi Poggers, I was hoping you all could help me with this. Since the Cheng Shin c755 in 3.50-18 is'nt available anymore. And I don't want to use a Barum. What brand (each brand seems different in sizing) 100/100-18 available today is narrow enough that it will look good, and almost pass as a 3.50 tire of old.
Also if anyone has an NOS Cheng Shin c755 3.50-18 that they would chose to part with, I would be your buyer. Thanks a lot. Bob

For a Steel Tanker, the Duro HF335 in a 4.10 X 18 is an excellent fit and easily clears the chain guard.  I have not found a 100/100 X 18 that clears the chainguard, but if you are prepping a show bike, this would be OK.
If you are going to ride, my experience with both the Duro HF335 and with the Cheng Shin C755 is that the Duro provides superior traction, hooks up well in most conditions and has a far superior profile.
I will not go back to a Cheng Shin even if I could find one.

Rob, watch Ebay under "Vintage Dirtbike Tire", there are some nice 3:50 x 18" Japenese tires going for cheap.  IRC, Bridgestone, Nitto, Nankang, and the tread looks similar to the old Metzelers on some of them.  I just bought a Nankang 300x 21 that looks nice and the starting prices are $6.99!  Even saw a few Goodyears too[:p]

The Duro HF335 looks similar to a Metzler/Cheng Shin C755 also. Thats what I run on my CMF 100.

Thank you Bill, If only I had known this two days earlier. I would'nt have ordered what I did, and tried the Duro. Well anyway that's great for future reference. I appreciate it guys.

Barums will fall apart if used. Too old.
The Duro HF335 is a great tire. The 4.10X18 looks like a 350X18 Metzeler. Use the Pirelli MT16 on front.
