Kevin, Roberto can't get one made for you in Italy[?]?
I'm not sure there were center stands available during those years until the 77-78 GS-6 models. I have a later NOS one if you want to try and fabricate a mount for it. mrwinter427@Hotmail.com for pics. Mike

Last summer, I bought a centerstand from Roberto for the 77 175 I restored. They bolt directly to the swingarm on the 77/78 and work great! They also have them for the 72 up KTM frames, Roberto will know for sure.
You could always install a 77 GS-6 swingarm on the 75 400 Cross Country, which would provide mounting for the GS-6 center stand. The only issues would be the correct length shocks because of different positioning of the shock mounts on the swingarm, and the possibility of needing to shorten the center stand because of the lower ride height of the 75 compared to the 77 GS-6. Mike,
Just sent you an email. Dale thanks for the link to the photo that is helpful, if I can't find something close at least I have an idea as to what they originally looked like so I can fab one. I know this bike originally had a center stand, there were a couple of small remnants still attached to the frame through the tubes the footpegs mount to. I don't know if it came with the bike or if it was something the owner made. Also I know Daniel McEntee was trying to make one up for 73-75 frames (http://www.pentonusa.org/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=14980&SearchTerms=Center+Stand ) I was hoping he had the dimensions so I could build one as well.
Thanks,
Kevin

Kevin,
After conferring yesterday on the phone with previous Penton dealer and restoration Guru, Dave Sanders, we discussed whether or not the 73-76 Penton KTM powered bikes ever had a center stand, and Dave was also of the opinion that there was not a production center stand available for those models, and I have never seen one myself either. That is not to say that some special purpose bikes such as ISDT or custom modified bikes ever were outfitted with one. After the Sachs models that had center stands that attached inside of the footpeg tubes, it was the GS-6 models that were introduced in 1977 and also 78 that the center stands were optional with a swingarm mounted center stand. The standard swingarm only had provisions for a side stand and the center stand utilized a different part # for the corresponding swingarm. I am currently charging the battery on my camera to send you the pics of the later model center stand that you might be able to utilize for your project. Mike

here is a 250 that i recently mounted one on. its the only pic i have right now. the stand itself mounted to the frame after drilling a hole through the footpeg tube. it took some playing with it and it seemed like it was a little lower than i liked when in the tucked position but i was pretty satisfied with it. chi jer
Yes it is. I love it on my bike.
Thanks Jerry you did a great job.
The stand came from Parma.
If you want more pictures, just let me know.
I am out of town holding classes this week but will be back Friday night.
God Bless
Doug Wade
Mike,
You friend Dave's explanation makes sense, the bike I am working on was an ISDT qualifier bike and I suspect the stand that was originally on there was added after the fact.
Thanks,
Kevin.

here is the reply back from roberto/parmabike in response to my question about the centerstand. chi jer
Dear shicagojerry,
Jerry,
I am out of them but if you are not in a hurry I will have them in about a month.
Thanks
Hi Guys;
I was fortunate to get the center stand that KTMTOM had listed on evilBay. I think Tom got it in a batch of Penton parts he bought, and it has the look of being a factory part. The stand in chicagojerry's photo is just like mine, so it must be correct. I did a ton of searching on the list and internet and studied the photos of Paul Danik's ISDT bike and other photos and came to the conclusion that it mounted like chijerry describes. The local guy that I get my stuff from was a Penton dealer back in that time period and he remembers that a center stand was a HiPoint accessory item available separately. If Roberto's guy repops them and he was the original OEM supplier back then, then I would have to believe his should be correct also. This stand is pretty simple and would be easy to duplicate. I can't get to any projects like that right now, but would try to provide detailed photos, sketches and dimensions for anyone that wants to fabricate their own. I intend to duplicate several for myself for my '73, and the 74/75 project bikes I have in progress. I try to put a center stand on all of my bikes if possible. Besides making them more "ISDTish" it is easier to stack bikes in the shed if they are standing straight up.
Type at you later,
Dan McEntee
PS to add: The item you need in addition to the center stand is a bracket for the return spring that is supposed to mount on the inside of the frame near the right foot peg. I haven't had time to research that further and don't know what it looks like exactly. Anybody got a photo of one of those?
Daniel,
Can you make me up a sketch with some dimensions so I can fab one?
Thanks,
Kevin

I've got a centerstand but I can't find a sidestand for my '98 KTM RXC.
Those modern bikes are tough to swing a leg over when it's on a stand.
And there's not always level ground for a centerstand at Dual-sport events.

Lew, When I had my 640 I put one of these on it.

I waited a while to check in but if there are any left, I could use one or two more for projects in progress. It's easier to buy that build!
Let me know how to proceed if available.
