Gary is correct. Use a good Auto Trans Fluid. I've never had a problem with it. I use a good Type F and change it often.

I used ATF type F for 35 years, which is what the manual calls for, but I have started using tractor transmission/hydraulic fluid. I get several different brands (look for MS-1209 spec)at WalMart, AutoZone, Tractor Supply, almost anywhere, in gallons for $11 or 2 gallons for $19. Its made for transmissions and wet brakes (a clutch to you and me) and its 10w30 so its a bit thicker than ATF.
