Title: Penton Hare Scrambler kick starter
Post by: Andreas Piepke on June 29, 2014, 09:17:27 PM

Hi All,

I am installing a 17 mm kick starter on my 1973 Penton Hare Scrambler. I converted it from 14 mm, there is a string of posts on that.
I installed a 0.7 mm tab under the large holding nut. The manual states that at least 1 mm clearance is needed between the starter sprocket and the ratchet. After assembling the parts I measure a clearance of 2 mm. This is indeed more than 1 mm but I am wondering whether there is also an upper limit on the clearance. The ratchet does seem to engage when rotating the starter shaft. I would appreciate any experience you would be willing to share with me.

Thanks

Andreas
