Title: Hi-Point HP14 for sale
Post by: rob brown on December 17, 2014, 02:04:53 PM
Hi Guys,

I am considering getting a larger trailer, and may sell my HP14. I am at work, but I recall it to be a 1987 model. I'm really wanting to pick your collective brains right now to see what you think in terms of price and demand.  It is not a showpiece, but it is good and solid. It pulls so well, but I need something bigger; wish I could afford two. I will be glad to send pics to someone if they could post them.

All thoughts are appreciated!

Merry Christmas to a great group!

Rob,
I have a 1985 14' dual axle, e-brakes HiPoint with the flat roof, no rear rise. Pretty good shape, bought it from the orig owner about 6 years ago for $2100.

My guess is if in good cosmetic shape and solid FG, doors etc it ought to bring $2K from a cycle fan who appreciates the style and sees the advantages over the standard cargo trailer. Hope you can get more...

To shine some light on advantages your can probably endorse:

> Like 1150 lbs unloaded, add a wheel to the tounge jack and easy for one guy to roll around a driveway or in-out of a garage
> Low floor height, but super handling w/ dual torsion axles and e-brakes...although so light I've never bothered plugging brakes in on mine
> WIDTH...about 6" wider inside than most cargos, for 2 side by side bike handlebars so no rubbing down the highway. I have a 74"x30" bed across the front, put 2 bikes in forward against the bed, 1 in between backward, still room for gear...less than 3,000 lbs total
> Low Exterior Height...Not a giant sail being towed down the hwy at 75, killing mpg and taxing the power on small V-8s. I pull with a 3.6L V-6, mostly in OD and get about 18mpg. Since mine has the flat roof, I can roll it in under a standard garage door at day's end...sure, no standing tall inside but a small price to pay.
> Cool Factor...lots of compliments, say no more.

Good luck!

Thanks for the info so far. You are right in that it really does pull well. I may be wrong about the model. The enclosed section looks to be about 6x10. I will look at the title and see if that helps. It is dual axle, no brakes, and has the ladder up front with a roof that rises in the back. Could I send someone a pic to post? I can send pics individually as I find them. I am on the east side of Roanoke, VA at Smith Mountain Lake. I have yet to meet him, but Udo Geitl (sp) is living here too. Remember him from Team Honda and BMW?  It's a great place to live :)

Thanks again. Cheers!

Looks like a 14 footer.   Holds two bikes pointed forward, one pointed rearward.

Hi Guys.  More questions:

I think the wheels are not stock on my trailer, as I am having a clearance problem. The trailer runs level, but the tires are rubbing the vertical fiberglass lip. Now I need some tires before I roll/keep or sell. Can anyone tell me if those wheels in the earlier pic look correct? The current tire size is 175/80/r13. I am wondering if a much lower profile (60) will help much. I know one owner who put 12" wheels on his HP. I need to stay low bucks though, go figure! Perhaps the springs have sacked a bit too.  All thoughts are appreciated!

Tires I have on mine are ST185/80R13.  They do stick out past the well but seem to have plenty of top clearance and haven't rubbed with three heavy British bikes and gear (plus the custom cabinetry the previous owner installed).

Programs won't get the sizing correct but......

Hey guys,

Looking for some more advice. I am hanging on to my trailer for awhile longer. That economy car was a higher priority, and I really like 32 mpg! The truck will lead an easier life for me. Anyway, I am going through the suspension. New tires are onboard. I am wanting to keep it as stock as possible, and am trying to source springs. The only place I have found to come to a close match is Redneck Trailer Supplies. Those springs are only 3 leaf; original is 5. Does anyone have another source? All ideas are appreciated!

HP14 revisited:

Hi again Guys. I sure did miss VMD. My weekend was spent on the farm, bushogging and burning brush from all the storms.

I have spent another $600 on the trailer. The local trailer shop did a great job with it. It turns out that one of the rear springs had snapped. I could only find a 3 leaf unit to match from Redneck supplies. The shop merged these into the standard 5 leaf setup. So both rear springs have been replaced, all new bearings and seals throughout, new low profile tires, wiring checked, and a max air cover over the vent so I can keep it open if needed. I have not painted it, so it looks the same as the pic above (all original).  I am still needing a larger trailer though, and found a 7x12 aluminum unit. So this one is for sale. I will ask $2000, or the highest bidder above that:)  I may be traveling north towards Ohio in the near future, if that helps make the deal.  Or am I just nuts for letting it go?!

Thanks as always for the advice and feedback. What a great group!

Mike and I had a great chat; very good guy. Ultimately, it won't suit what he needs to do. Door width issue. So the trailer is still for sale. I am traveling to the Athens, Ohio area tuesday morning. I can bring it if the sale is sure. Just let me know. 540815841

New pics available. I still can't post them though. D'oh!

UPDATE:

I have taken a lot of pictures, including the underside. The frame look good to me. If interested, please email or text your email address and I will send pics. I put a lot of $$ into making sure it is reliable on the road, and preserving a great brand :) I would take it anywhere. I can meet you somewhere to reduce your travel time.

Price lowered to $1900, and I am losing bucks at that. Not $$$ practical with a new trailer beside it. But I like having both:)
