Greetings,
I should have posted this sooner, but as the saying goes, "better late than never".
Each year during Daytona Bike Week, there is a very special gathering that takes place at the incredible Daytona 200 Monument which is located right on Daytona Beach, just a few hundred yards north of the famous Daytona Beach Pier. Today, March 11 at 11am this years gathering will take place.
For anyone not familiar with the Monument, it was created by Dick and Bev Klamfoth as a way to keep the history of racing motorcycles on the old beach course alive. The Monument is spectacular and something that should not be missed whenever one visits Daytona, as a matter of fact the Monument is reason enough for a visit to those shores.
The link below will take you to the website that contains information about today's gathering as well as the Monument. Do yourself a favor and click on the photo gallery link and enjoy the pictures of past gatherings at the Monument and catch a few glimpses of the Monument as well.

Dave Despain did a special a few years back about how racing actually began at Daytona Beach and it was shown on network TV before the running of the Daytona 500 a couple of times. The link below will take you to a short clip of Dave's documentary that provides some very interesting information.
Keep in the mind that the racing that Dave describes and that is shown in the video clip, took place on the beach between the Daytona 200 Monument and the Atlantic Ocean. As you sit at the Monument and listen to the roar of the ocean, possibly some of the sounds are the ghosts of "days gone by", watch the video and then visit the Monument when you can, then you can decide.....I can assure you that it will be a visit you will remember.
