Title: 1977 MC5 250
Post by: Mike Korgan on March 13, 2015, 04:49:14 PM
Is anyone out there running a Mikuni carb on a 77 250. If so what size and what jets are working for you? Any issues I need to think about before considering using the Mikuni?
Thanks,
Mike

Mike,
I have a 76 MC5, that I use mainly for MX.  I live in NY; elevation around 1,100'  I have a 35 Pilot, and a 350 main in a 36mm carb. Needle is in the middle, and the idle screw is 1 turn out....  As far as any issues, the inlet from the air box to the carb can be challenging... I ended up cutting about 1/2" off the bell of the carb, and fabricated a flat plate with a 1/2' flange to mount on the air box. It is a tight fit, but well worth the effort.  The Mikuni give the bike a longer range of usable power....

I'm getting ready to make a decision on this very subject. Can you post a picture here or email me one of what you fabricated? My intention is to start with the Bing, but be ready to switch to a Mikuni, and won't hurt to have an idea of what is involved. I've searched the forum for other solutions and will do that again aso as the time for a decision approaches. If you can, send me a picture to dpmcenthusiast @ aol dot com.
  Thanks a lot,

Mike do a search, I did this very thing a few years ago.  I list out all the things I did to make it fit, seems to me I used a bore out 34. It is a smaller body so it was a bit easier to set up.
