All,
After speaking with Steve Barber about his health he mentioned to me that this years 19th Annual Leroy Winters ISDT Reunion Ride has been rescheduled & relocated.
I went to the AHRMA site and sure enough it's posted that it will be held over "Labor Day" weekend and will be hosted by the Athens M/C. September 5th & 6th
Without even asking yet I'm sure that Kevin Brown (KB) & family will be spear heading the operation with most likely Kent Knudson helping as well? The Athens M/C is also one of the oldest motorcycle clubs in southern Ohio & AMA history. They are well capable of hosting such a event. In years past this club hosted the Ohio State Enduro Championship and The "Milk Run" enduro which still takes place every year since 1946
The club has also hosted ISDT Qualifiers and National Enduros. The list of National caliber riders born & raised in this area is unbelievable. To name a few of the riders "TC", Kevin Brown, Jeff Russell, Gene O'Nail, Gary Roach the list could go on forever!
Then you have the "Legends" Sox Brookhart "Home of The Mud Runners" Charlie Hawk, Joe "Pappy" Gee, Bud Wilson, Bud Green, Jim Fogle and many more..
I personally cant wait to ride this years event!

This is exciting......I've never been able to attend one of these because they are always during my high school golf season. Having it on Labor Day is great because we don't do anything then, so it's on my schedule! I'll have the Harescramnbler in full enduro trim, can't wait!
Mick
I'm out for Labor day, no way I can get that weekend off.
Brian
Well.... I understand the reasoning...but I am not happy about having to travel on one of the busiest weekends of the year.....

Count another one for can't make it now. Labor day weekend is out of the question. Thirty people in the office and we can't change our vacation choice after January. I will probably skip the "Six Days" series now that I can't make the RR. I was looking forward to it this year since they were all within a days drive.
Sorry to hear that this change will effect some of the six days participants. Unfortunatley a large portion of our land is also under lease for deer hunters and won't be available for the original schedualed date. This date is the only thing left, with the ACES enduro schedual, NEPG, GNCC as well as the local Harescramble and GP series. In a way it's awsome to live in an area with so much dirt bike activity. On the otherhand, It limits our options to schedual an event late, after the others have set their scheduals. The Athens Motorcycle club will be hosting the Lost in Lodi "Sox Brookhart Memorial" enduro this weekend, in Shade Ohio. Once we clear this hurdle, we will be comfirming a host hotel so reservations can be made to secure those needs. We have an awsome start location with a couple of grass tracks and a cross country course before we hit any roads. The trail will be very friendly for our vintage bikes and riders as well. Please be sure to bring a story if you have one, and listen close to the ones that I am sure will be flying around.
My wife Amber and Kent Knudson and his family as well as the Penton Owners group are lining up the ducks for the banquet. That info will also be available in a timely maner. Keep Steve Barber in your thoughts and prayers. We are honered he thinks highly enough of us to pass the torch to us. This was not an easy decision, But cancelling was not an option in his mind or ours. Steve is a 6 Days rider. He will find a way to get it done. For those who will be attending, we thank you in advance.

Thank you Kevin. Will there be camping on-site?
Mick
Yes, very good camping!!! With a very good food vender!!!
KB
is this at the same place the ahrma crosscountry races were held? my 2 sons and i will be there and thanks
dennis l.brown
Hi Dennis,
No, it's a different location, and a different club putting on the event. The location is at the intersection of Ohio State Routes 550 and 690, near Amesville.
Here's a video of the National Hare Scrambles that Athens M/C held there last year:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rve1Z8KUPo8
Here's an aerial view of the parking lot, and there's no problem with finding a nice flat area for camping.

Gary
Thank you KB & Amber and all of the AMC members, AHRMA, POG and everyone else involved in keeping this special event on the schedule.
As mentioned above the reason for the change is because of Steve Barber's health so here is the link to help support him and his family. Steve's daughter Vicki is posting updates on a regular basis. http://www.gofundme.com/helpstevebarber Thank you for your support.
I was never fortunate enough to ride an ISDT/ISDE but the thought has always been there! I have been around long enough that I actually have ridden benefit rides for KB and many other riders from Ohio to help support their efforts representing the USA.
Thank you Gary for posting the video and the awesome view..
I only ride a couple times a year so this one is definitely on my list! I actually just finished building a bike for this event.
Now my only concern is how well will Team "Go Brown" do this year? Its been six years since we rode as a team!

Thanks Gary and Mike, I will probably not compete, with my roll in setting up the event, It might be frowned on a bit. I assure you I will be out on the trail, soaking in every tail being told and checking that everything is going as planned.
We will have a legends course and will try to get all of the checks lined up so everyone can check through.
With all the events my wife Amber and I play a part in (harescrambles, enduro, GP's and an Enduro cross type event at our local fair), this exites me more than any.
The six days guys are a special group, and deserve the highest respect.
Thanks for the opportunity give it.
Keep Steve in mind and help if you can.
I am insisting Kent Knudson ride with us, in the dualsport part. His bike is almost done. He is always stuck keeping all the Pentovrna riders going. This time he RIDES WITH US.:):):) KB
Good choice, Who will be Waldo's sitter? You or Trever? Good luck. KB
I am Brent Chadwell, a member of Athens Motorcycle Club and one of the land owners that will be hosting the reunion ride.
Let me say that AMC is honored to host this event and please keep our friend Steve Barber in your thoughts and prayers.
KB will obviously be the trail boss and oversee the event but my goal as the primary land owner is to make it an enjoyable weekend for everyone involved.
As we plan this event, I would like input from you guys about what you have enjoyed about past events as well as any suggestions you might have. I am also a source of information about the site so I will answer any questions you may have.
As Gary stated, our farm with AMC hosted the AMA East HS last year and has been a part of the Milk Run Enduro since the 1980's. The camping/impound/start area will be at the corner of St Rt 690 and St Rt 550 (thanks to Gary for the aerial pic).
We will have plenty of level primitive camping/parking and we will have food vendor(s). We are located about 8 miles East of Athens which has a ton of resturants and several motels. We are approximately 35 miles West of Marietta.
If you have any questions just ask. I will update you with more info as we get things together.
You asked for some in put. I would like to have a timed hill climbed section. The Birkshire trials, ISDT events and even McArthur had such a run. I don't know what you terrain is like at the new venue, but see what you can do. Not only are they fun for the rider, but also a good spot for the spectators. Can't wait for the event to take place-see you then. [:p] Amherst Paul

Paul,
That's exactly the kind of input I'm looking for. I appreciate it and will pass it on to KB.
Thanks and keep those suggestions coming.
I think our hill climb is a bit OverKill. We'll think on that... KB
Yes, you are correct in giving it plenty of thought. A hill climb that might be fairly easy in good weather can be a nightmare if it rains too much before the event or during. Be prepared to have an alternate trail around it --- should things turn nasty. There is nothing worse then a big bottle neck holding back the herd. Also remember that some of us are passed the 70 mark, riding old motorcyles and may not be in the best of shape. While this is a competition it is also suppose to be fun. Amherst Paul :D
I hate to have events move, but I am glad this one did. The first dates got taken over by a wedding, so I am happy to be able to ride a "home" (under 100 miles away) event. I just want to have fun
I agree with Paul. The competition part of this is cool, But the real fun comes from the ISDT/E stories being told by the past 6Days riders at the checks. And being able to ride with the ledgends that paved the way for us.
The hill climb test was fun. It just takes the right hill to do it. A cool test isn't worth risking an entire days ride. I have a hill in mind. Man power is the other obstacle we have. I hope this will be fun for all of our club members, also. More info to come... KB
Looks like by some miracle I might actually be able to get that weekend off.
Brian
OK, I officially have the Thursday and Friday of that week off so I'm in. No idea what I will ride, maybe my '84 KTM125GS I bought from Gary Ellis 6 years ago at the '09 Reunion Ride in Ohio.
Brian
Anybody heard if the Michigan AHRMA ISDT event is going to be replaced? Also if I remember right AEP had strip mines around the Athens area - good spoil banks in the course? How many total acres available?
No strip mines in this one. The camping/start area farm is close to 200 acres. The 2 adjacent farms total about 300 acres. Plus the Legends Ride will cover several additional properties.
We have several possible terrain tests available as well as some nice single track, creek crossings, grass tracks and logging roads.
Our goal is to honor the 6Days vets and provide an event that can be as tough (or fun) as the rider wants it to be.
I understand that the Michigan event is still on but has been undertaken by another club. The event will now probably be held around the Bentley, MI area. Should see something official on the AHRMA website soon.

Our friend Steve Barber passed away last night. Please keep his family in your thoughts and prayers.
Are there any members from past reunion ride events that can lend a hand with helping Amber organize the row assignments? The club is under the impression that AHRMA is going to take care of this, which, I don't think is correct. I thought all AHRMA does is collect the money for the registration.

I believe in the past the AHRMA Cross Country coordinator has made the row assignments. She should get in touch with Becky Hayes who is the current coordinator.
Brian
Hi all,
Yes, Brian is correct. The last two times our club had this event in 2012 & 2014 the AHRMA CC coordinator which was Lynn Burton made the row assignments. Now that Becky Hayes is the coordinator and familiar with all the people who normally attend this event she should be able to help. I made the row assignments when our club had the event in 2008 and would certainly help Amber if she has questions. Also, I served as event coordinator for our club the last two times we had the ISDT RR and if the Athens M/C has any questions that I can help with just let me know.

Host hotel for the 2015 ISDT RR will be the Holiday Inn Express & Suites (740-592-4640). Mention the Leroy Winters Reunion Ride for special pricing. Located at 555 E. State in Athens, it's a 15 minute ride to the event site.
The Baymont Inn & Suites (740-594-3000) is also nearby. 20 Home Street in Athens and also 15 minutes from the site.
For a more rustic experience check out 1st Choice Cabin Rentals (610-858-1756). Located at the southern edge of the Hocking Hills region, these furnished cabins are great for larger groups. About 30 minutes from the event site. For details and photos, check out their website.
Admission is FREE for the weekend and there are plenty of level camping spots. Camping is $10 per night.

Oh yea, on an update, we will be running a section of the John Penton track in Millfield, as a test, thanks to the Russell family. That should be a cool part of the course. We will use some of the parking area for a check and probably gas stop. KB

We have an update for the reunion! We secured the Athens High School
Cafe, and auditorium, for the banquet! It's 10 minutes or less to the motels and 15 minutes from Chadwell's (the start). I've been working on connecting the trail together. This is a bit different than laying out an enduro, where I try to kick butt. This should be a lot of fun. I rode some of the reunions in the past, my favorite was Pittsfield Mass, in 03 or 04. I'm shooting for something like that. I just don't have the grasstrack options to match theirs. I will be running some of the John Penton GNCC, I was out there Sunday checking things out. Get your calls out to any of the 6 days vets you know to get their rides going. I've lost contact info for Terry Cunningham, We hope to have Jeff Russell find time between all of his GNCC chores, and I've talked to Heath Bennett. We are all 6 days vets from good ol' Athens High.
More later. KB
KB, Is the $40 on the Online entries the full amount for both days ? Are we buying banquet tickets at signup ? Also where do we request riders riding together ? I will be on the Hungry Creek Team with Johnny "PEG" Freidly, Greg Holder, Danny Sullivan, and myself. We like to ride together if possible. I think we had been riding on about row 14 past few years.
Dwight
Dwight, AHRMA is taking pre entries and assgning numbers.
AMC will "ASSIST" with post entries.
We have secured the Athens High School facilities for the banquet
as well as Kizer's BBQ for the catering.
I will be contacting Dave Lambert Monday with your question about banquet tickets and numbers.
We'll see you there. KB
Some of our members have been working very hard to make this event a success and deserving of our support. If you haven't attended one of the reunion rides it is a great opportunity to achieve a six-day ISDT experience in one weekend. Tell or grab a friend, plan on attending, and most importantly pre-register through the AHRMA website. http://www.ahrma.org/ahrma_pdfs/Z-2015/Forms/15_CC_entry.pdf
Entry fees are daily according to the form and a weekend $30 membership for non-AHRMA members may be applicable (convertible into a full membership).

I received some information regarding the "On Line" sign up for the Reunion Ride.
Per Dave Lambert: The ISDTRR is a 2 Day event-but only pays 1 Day points so we only do 1 Day entry fee for the event.
As of now you can save a little money by pre-entering. Pre entering also helps the club with the planning of the banquet which is a tough task!
I'm sure some information will be sent soon regarding the banquet. If you know you are going to attend the banquet please reach out and tell "KB"
Becky Hayes can be reached at
[email protected] for anyone wanting to ride together. She has assured me she will help in anyway to accommodate your requests.
Please don't wait until the last minute to make a decision. It's once a year we get to meet and visit with these true motorcycle racing hero's. I also received news that "TC" will not be there. His daughter is getting married that weekend which is a day no father would miss.
I will start a post asking about banquet attendees and maybe that will help with the count needed for the catering service.

I hope they post row numbers in advance so we can get some nice looking numbers on the bikes.
Strange, I can't get anything to print off the info site.
Dwight, AHRMA is doing the numbers, and Pog is opening or opened a signup for the banquet.
KB
Are teams made up of three riders or four? So far we have myself, Gary Ellis, and Chuck Gresham. Do we need another?
Mick
Teams are 4 riders. 3 best scores. KB, No, AHRMA has not set up anything for the banquet. They don't even have any event info. They should have a link but don't.
I experienced the same issue as Dwight; it would only allow me to pay for one day. Is that all it is, $40?
Mick
Yes 40.00 for entry. Only paying points for 1 day. Not good for the club. 2days for 40.00,club won't brake even on fees.
The Reunion Ride has always been a single event for points and fees even though its two days. The entry fee is usually a little higher but not much, I think last year was $60?
Brian
This was discussed with Dave at AHRMA and it was to be a per day entry. ERA suggested the club recieve $30 per day. I will be in touch with AHRMA as soon as I can. Their hours
make it hard to catch them sometimes. KB
I would have gladly paid $60 to $80 for the event.
At the Athens Motorcycle Club meeting last night, the misunderstanding regarding entry fees was discussed at length.
It was decided this event is about memories, not money.
The event will be held as scheduled and AMC will honor the existing AHRMA registration fee. $40 for the weekend (online) $45 for the weekend (@ track) This is a great deal for the riders and admission will remain Free.
So see you at The Ride and if you are so inclined, toss a buck or two in the AMC donation jar. [8D]

Mike,
We will try to stay pretty close to this schedule:
Friday:
6:00- 8:00pm: Sign-in and late registration. Everyone must sign-in and get their row assignment and information packet. In the packet will be an ISDTRR number for your number plate, two scorecards in plastic (one for each day, to be secured to your bike's front fender), and other information. The first digit of your ISDTRR number will be a 1, 2, or 3. The last two digits of your number will indicate on which minute you will start after Key Time. There will not be a need for a checkpoint schedule in real time because all the checkpoints will be by the rider number (minute) and not by the clock.
6:00-8:00pm: Tech inspection at Parc Ferme. We highly encourage Friday tech inspection, which will ease the Saturday-morning rush. For tech inspection, you will need your registration papers, and your bike must have the ISDTRR numbers and scorecard in place. Any spare bike will also need to go through tech inspection (without the ISDT numbers and scorecard). Bikes do not have to remain in Parc Ferme at this time, but it is permitted to do so. Parc Ferme will be open until one hour before Key Time each morning, at which time it will be closed to everyone until 15 minutes before Key Time.
Saturday:
7:00-8:30am: Sign-in and late registration (please do this Friday evening, if possible).
7:00-8:00am: Tech inspection open at Parc Ferme.
8:30am: Parc Ferme closes – All bikes must be in and all riders must be out of Parc Ferme at this time. Anyone violating this rule will receive a 120-point penalty. This penalty can easily make the difference between winning a trophy or not!
8:30am: Riders' meeting.
Good idea on the Milk Can. We may have one laying around somewhere...
There seems to be some concern from the riders about the tech inspection for lights & tags.
We will tech for lights and tags. We will assume the lights work and the tag is legit. ;)
I hope this clears up any confusion.
See you at The Ride

Tyle Chadwell' Brian Rickard and I just got in from doing the final touches on the John Penton GNCC special test. It will be a fun piece of trail. It's 3+ miles of the GNCC and part of the training coarse for the 2015 ISDE team.
I'm really stoked to be able to add this to the RR coarse. It just fits... Heading back out now that I've had my PB&J and milk.
More later. KB
So, for bike choice planning, would you describe the terrain as tight woods or more open stuff? Thanks.
Mike
It was recommended by AHRMA to keep the difficulty level low, and the ridability level high. This coarse is set up in those guidlines. There is some tighter woods, but mostly it has been layed out with vintage bikes as well as... well... vintage riders :) in mind. I would love to ride/compete on K-nutes Mint 400. Because of 2 metal knees and one metal hip, I would most likly ride the 82 husky 250xc.
The choice of bike that I will recommend is what ever you enjoy riding the most. Thanks for asking KB
How many riders do you have pre-entered? Are numbers being drawn for position or issued as signed up?
Thanks
Quotequote:Originally posted by t20sl

That's a good question but unfortunately it's a question for AHRMA. They are handling the sign up.
Thanks and see you at The Ride.
I would think that if you were to sign up together, you would be given a row together. That is how we do it with the ACES series.
Best bet is to check with AHRMA. KB
I need to know if there will be a blood test. Or possibly a caffeine test.
:-). Enjoy!
Wish I could be there
As far as the blood test: Brent will jab you with a sharp stick. If you bleed, you pass the blood test.:D As far as the sound test: if it is stupid loud, it won't pass. If it is not, your good to go.
Let me make this simple "BE REASONABLE! WE ARE".

AHRMA asked for "50 or so" miles. Thats what we are shooting for. Sorry I havn't had time to run out an milsge it yet. But, I'll get on that as soon as we finish setting up the 3 terrain test, the grass track and connecting all the trail together with as little road as possible (within reason). I can tell you the grass track is fun, the first terrain test is at the Athens motorcycle club, and is almost done, is around 2 miles, the second terrain test is part of the John Penton GNCC and part of the 2015 ISDE training coarse and is about 3 miles long. We will run a gas trailer to the gas check. My guy's are workin on the third grass track, should be about 3 + or - a little.
Oh crap! Lunch break is over. Back to work for now.
I will be doing road arrows after football in evenings this week. Milage won't be exact unill later next week.

Thanks for all your work Kevin. I was at the NY 2 dayer last weekend-it was tough for this old guy. If it had rained I know I would not have made it to the end. It was 30 miles including special test and a grass track on Sat. 20 miles on Sunday with special tests and a MX. Remember that there are a lot of us older fellows on old bikes that are looking for a fun time and not a full ISDT competition. The younger and better riders will always be faster and tougher then the older riders. Again, thank you and your crew for all the work.
See you soon, Amherst Paul

Paul, thanks for the post. The ISDTRR's I have attended have been a great tool for setting this one up. With the Enduro's we lay out, If I don't get at least one cussing, it was too easy.
The goal for this one is "nothing but smiles". I am laying out a ledgends rt. And I think car accessable will be a welcome addition to the offroad coarse. I want everyone at the checks to tell (or listen to) stories. That is the best part to me.

I am so bummed I haven't been able to attend any regional or national races this year. Had two major medical issues that required surgery. Is this the same race facility that they used for the 2009 RR? If so, it was an absolutely fantastic event. Hope all of you participating have a wonderful time.

JC, we are doing a legends coarse that will be auto friendly. It will take you to the checks so everyone can hear how blazing fast each other went... As well as the stories from the past (those are the ones I like to hear). You can register at the signup table if you would like. It is FREE, you can toss a donation into the milk can If you would like. Remember, the only requirment for all is to have fun and leave smiling.

I was out milaging today. I cut a couple of sections out because my milage was heading towards 65 miles. I was asked to keep the milage around 50. It is about 53 miles. Thats PER DAY just to be clear.
There is a grass track test that will be run on the way out, early on. And then again on the way back in, in the afternoon.
It's just shy of 3 miles.
There is a terrain test at the Athens Motorcycle club grounds (my yard) that is about 2 miles long.
The next test is a terrain test at Sunday Creek Raceway, home of the John Penton GNCC, and part of this coarse was used for training the 2015 ISDE Trophy, JR Trophy and Womens Trophy teams that are at 6 Days now.
Hats off to the Russell family (which includes Kailub)for the use of this ground. It's 3 miles long.
There is road used to connect these sections.
You will need a head light, tail light and a licence plate. (as stated before, we will assume they are leagle and in working order. GET IT?)
We will send a gas trailer to the second TT at Sunday Creek Raceway.
I've tried to cover everything.
Questions will have to wait until, possibly, Monday. We will be helping at the Little Burr enduro all day tomorrow.
The Little Burr event will not be the same without STEVE BARBER there. Though, I'm sure he will be keeping an eye on us.
Keep Gary Spencer in mind, also. He just had back surgery Friday.
Heal fast Gary.

Kevin,
I would love to make the drive out there, but these two recent surgeries took the wind out of my sails -- despite being otherwise physically fit. 4 out of the last 5 national events (Unadilla, MI, NY, and ISDTRR) were no brainer gotta be there events...But, again, due to the nature of these surgeries, it was (and still is) impossible to even travel to them as a spectator.
Definitely have made outstanding progress, but I want to continue to follow my Doc's order to the T to ensure that my recovery is 100 percent successful. I'll definitely make the rounds next year!
Hope all of the POG members that are participating have a great time!
Kevin, I've only ridden one reunion ride and the new York 2 day. While having a lot of trail to ride is nice, both rides I went to had shorter mileage on Sunday which made it nice for getting on the road early. We will have an 8 hour drive home from Ohio and I'm sure others will be further. I appreciate your club taking on this event and all the hard work the members put in. It would be nice to have a shorter day on Sunday if that's possible to do. That way you can get the scoring done sooner and we can be on the road earlier. Just my 2 cents.
Thanks

Originally we thought it would be a good idea to get the spectator map out early so support crews could download it to their phones or other electronic devices. But....
To keep the total mileage within guidelines, we have removed a section and made some revisions which made my original map obsolete.
I've removed the original spectator map from //www.isdtreunionride2015.info and will replace it a few days before the race. (there will also be maps available at sign up)
I apologize for the change if you have already downloaded it.
The weather forecast looks good and the trails and tests are in very good condition.
Thanks and see you at The Ride.
Is there anyone from New England going to the reunion that has room for a couple of frames and some parts? I cant make it this year.

On Sunday, we will do a final moto in place of the 2nd grass track.
We have already cut 3 sections to allow for the banquet on Saturday, and travel time on Sunday. This was good trail. But, it was requested to have 15 to 20 minutes at the checks for the BS sessions. There is not much left to do on our end, But raise the speed average up. I hope this helps, But from here on, it is what it is. Remember, Monday is a holiday, you can sleep in. Thanks KB

Don't forget the 2015 ISDT Reunion Ride also welcomes modern dual sport riders. We will start the dual sport class after the AHRMA competitors. These trails are perfect for DS's and the weather forecast is great. Where else can you get 2 days of racing for under 80 bucks?
//www.isdtreunionride2015.info
See you at The Ride.
I have been working the rt card around trying to find a happy medium for the time schedual. The speed we will run is 15 mph. We will be done Saturday about 1:10, and Sunday about 12:50ish + the final moto.
It will be in the mid to upper 80's, so HYDRATE in advance. I will try to have water at the check's, for all of us highly trailed athletes. We have altered the course to allow for this. KB

How did you guys find out your numbers?
Mick
It's a Secret. (Check with CC coordinator)
ISDT vets are only on front rows if they are on modern bikes.
Old Mother Nature kicked in some dust control today. She helps keep everything green. Trails are great.
See you at The Ride.
Also for you guys traveling with GPS. Don't pick "shortest route" or you will end up on what Helmet calls "pioneer roads" LOL
Stick with I-77, US33 or US 50/32 until you get close to Athens.
See you at The Ride.
Key Time?
9:30 key time both days.
I've posted the results @ http://www.isdtreunionride2015.info/news.html
Thanks to everyone that attended the event. We enjoyed having you as our guests and hope you had as much fun as we did. Maybe we can do it again sometime.

Did anyone else besides Dale F. take pictures during the dinner? It would be great to see all the bikes and cool memorabilia that was on display especially since I wasn't there.
Thank you to all that were involved in making this years Reunion Ride a success! I personally thanked Mr. Russell & Brent for their generosity and KB & the gang for all their hard work. I even had a great conversation with Mr.Motoworld himself Larry Maiers... He will have a story to tell for many years to come about my Uncle Jim Fogle (3 Time ISDT Rider)who was a disappointing no show for the event... I feel sorry for the gentleman that was attending that Larry thought was Uncle Jim...Good times!

I can download a few more from Facebook pages. No links yet to other Photobucket, Flickr, or Smugmug discovered yet. There were more taken of the vets attending and the great memorabilia displayed in the auditorium.
