Does anybody know when the original Keeping Track was published and how long or how many issues before it was discontinued?
Thanks,
Kevin

Kevin,
First issue #1 was December of 1972.
Last issue #27 was October of 1976.
.There was 1 issue in 1972.
.............10 issues in 1973
...............6 issues in 1974.
...............4 issues in 1975.
...............4 issues in 1976.
For a total of 25 issues.
I am missing #'s 1, 3, 5, and 6.

Using current technology, finding and scanning the original issues and putting them on a CD would be something that I would buy in a second. Same with the "Still...Keeping Track. I have a gap from when I first joined the group to when I rejoined, and would be neat to fill in the gap. I collect model airplane magazines and some guys are going that route also with some of the older issues that are just too hard to find. HAving the original is cool, and a copy is better than nothing.Great way to archive stuff also for future generations.
  Type at you later,

Thanks Rob, It would be wonderful to have a full set of the original issues.
Does anyone know of the follow on "HiPoint Keeping Track" issues?
I have one copy of issue 1.

Kevin, Sounds like you won that recent auction on ebay of 16 issues and the "Hi-Point Keeping Track". Never heard of or saw the Hi-Point issue before, pretty sure that was a one time thing.
Just let me know how much you'll take for issue # 1. :D

Kevin,

Same as you, I only have the No. 1, Oct. 1978 issue of the Hi-Point Racing Products Keeping Track, never saw any later ones but that surely doesn't mean more don't exist.

In looking at it now it is interesting to note the one add on the last page stating
WE HAVE SACHS & PENTON/KTM PARTS
We have many Sachs engine parts and Penton/KTM cycle parts available. If you deal with these parts, write us for a list of parts available from Penton East.

Bob, My October of 1976 issue is number 26, you state that yours is # 27, possibly an oversight but am curious if that is correct?

In case anyone wonders why there were 26 issues of the Keeping Track, yet only 25 physical issues, the # 10 and # 11 are combined. September and October of 1973.

An interesting tidbit, issue # 1, and the last issue # 26, both have the same rider on the cover, none other than Carl Cranke.

These newsletters were all the result of the dedicated work of Matt Weisman and his wonderful wife Barb. A number of the covers were hand drawn by Barb and are truly works of art. Barb's signature can be found on her artwork, such as is found on Carl's shoulder on the # 15 issue.

I spent a few hours with Matt and Barb at their home a few months ago before a POG meeting discussing the newsletters. At that time I was able to present them with a binder with all of the Keeping Track newsletters as they didn't have a set. They had lots of interesting stories to tell about creating the newsletters and I have encouraged them to do a presentation at a POG meeting on this subject as this is very important Penton history, and quite interesting.

One item yet to mention, Matt stated how they always tried to give praise to the younger Penton riders in the newsletters as a form of encouragement and a sign of appreciation. They realized that the young riders were the future and really worked hard at developing that market. I personally feel that the KTM mini races held today at some of the Supercross intermissions are a direct result of the forward thinking of folks like Matt Weisman "back in the day", which KTM has carried into this era.

Can't thank Matt and Barb enough for all they have done... They are as creative as they are nice....:D

Sorry to ramble Kevin in your thread.

Paul

Paul,
You are correct, I was mistaken. Last issue Oct. '76 was issue #26.
