CALVMX recently held a "women's day" and the turnout was fantastic. Frank has turned the organization, with lots of key people, too many to list, into the "old days type of races', lots of serious competitors as well as a few of us just having fun. Family oriented and loads of nice people.
The Gals were smoking hot, I mean on their machines, and a few in both categories.
Anyway, I raced my KTM 2013 SX 150 with revised suspension improved by a local expert, Canyon Suspension, he understands all suspensions and is fair and reasonably timely in his work. He races vintage and modern so knows the business. I believe he'll be expanding soon and will be another source for our suspension needs.
My SX ran very smooth, I being a bit out of shape, raced the "modern support" and due to scheduling had to turn right back to the starting gate for the Ironman a single half hour moto. I began to get the feel of the bike, only 3rd time I rode it, and chased a rider for a few laps, holding back, to not make the mistake of overshooting a line and ending up in worse position than I began, I stayed just behind the rider and had an opportunity, just in front of the bleachers, crowds and announcer, made my move over the double jump and got passed the rider(my old brain and ego[}:)] heard the crown roar), nobody was really watching), then had to lock up and make a hairpin after the next couple hundred meters. The rider, I find out was a "Gal", a humbling experience[:I] coming, from the "old days", but she is very good and made no mistakes.[8)]
The Times They Are A Changing".....someone should write a song like that !
I think I'll take my '72 Six Days next race......usually not too many gals ride the '72 and older bikes, yet.
Victor...............fun was had by all, although (3) times the races stopped with serious injuries. Sometimes we go to fast for "vintage bikes".
Great story...I'm looking at moderns (half-heartedly..)and keep wondering whether to go with a 5 year 200 or a (kitted) 280 XC-F. I have 4 MX tracks within one hour of me (one is 10 minutes away!) and just want to run with the +45's or whatever every once in a while.
