Title: Mikuni vs Bing
Post by: Cathump on July 29, 2002, 05:13:51 PM
I have a '78 MC5 250 (thanks Donny) and I am contemplating changing the Bing to a 38mm Mikuni.

Does the jetting demands on a Bing closely mirror the Mikuni?

Also, asumming San Diego, where this bike came from, is at sea level, and where it is now is at 2000 feet, what would be a good starting point for leaning the carb? 1-2 sizes?

Basically Bings will give you a little more top end at the expense of bottom end. Mikunis are just the opposite. I suggest you try one size down at a time.

I want to try the Mikuni so I will not have to maintain two different jet supplies. The loss of top end with the Mikuni is ok with me, since I am mostly a trail rider.
