Title: 1979 KTM GS80
Post by: Jeffrey Matyas on April 25, 2015, 10:15:12 AM
Not sure what the best way is to add images do I hope the link below works. I bought a 1979 this Spring and it is great with the exception of a pod filter. I would like to piece together a real air box and all the parts so please contact me if you have or know of any.

Also, I would like to keep the tank graphics from bunching up. Does the DC Plastics tank skin fit? If not has anybody made one? I work in Aerospace Tooling and could probably make a carbon fiber one if I ask around enough. What do you guys do to keep the stickers, well sticking?

All comments appreciated (even bad ones).
Thanks, Jeff

I'm pretty sure it keeps water from splashing directly on the filter, but I've never had one in place. Mike

Yes, It's a splash guard and is fitted just forward of the air box on the frame rails.

It's sheet plastic about the thickness of a credit card. If anyone needs a pattern I can trace it and mail it.

If I remember correctly DC makes a tank skin for the 79 smaller MX tank but not the larger GS

Thank you Dave!  I have one, and have been trying to figure out how it fit into the airbox....  Being of Polish decent, I never thought about it belonging outside the box!!!  As it is, I have a piece of rubber in that spot.  I guess will have to install it correctly!  Thank too Mike for your response...
