This past weekend in Reynoldsville PA, Paul Danik was asked to be the Grand Marshal for a Vintage Cross Country event. The event staff had Paul do a question and answer session and a parade lap on a Steel tanker. As usual Paul was the typical "Penton Ambassador" he always is. Paul may even share a photo of the "Trophy" depicting his image at the Six Days in Italy.
Poggers Jake and John Fisher and Rick Hoover also rode the event.
Thanks Paul, and the others for representing the Penton Sportcycle and POG.

I raced in the Vintage 200 class on my blue 71 Honda SL 125. I had worked on my 74 Penton Six Days all day Saturday but there was just too much to fix and at 11:00 pm I thru in the towel when I discovered the rear tire was not holding and the carb jetting still needed help. It will be ready for Mid Ohio, no excuses. I have only met Paul a few times but he has already helped me along with my two Penton projects providing information and a part without knowing me much at all. At the race he told stories of his ISDT adventures and how he didn't cheat (because he didn't get caught) which the crowd loved. He led the sighting laps of both the vintage and PV races (yes, it was muddy), and then became the flagger at the barrel, urging you on with his normal enthusiasm. His being there made you want to try a little harder. Like Conrad said, the POG couldn't have a better "Penton Ambassador". I hope he had as much fun as the rest of us.

Hopefully, more to follow with this one coming from Paul.
In this photo is Jake Fischer, Jenny Fischer, Johnny Fischer, and the guy behind them is Greg Whittenburger, not sure who the guy is holding the flag.....

The event was part of the North Atlantic Vintage & Post Vintage Cross Country Series, put on by the Potomac Vintage Riders in conjunction with AHRMA, http://www.potomacvintageriders.com/cross-country/
These guys put on an awesome event and they really are a dedicated Group, it was a real pleasure being involved with their event. Dave Kutskel oversaw the event and he is top notch in his organizational skills in every area, to say I was impressed is an understatement.
Rick Huth asked me back in January at the PVR swapmeet if I could attend the event, Rick and I go way back as he was President of the Truittsburg Motorcycle Club near Knox, Pa, one of the local clubs in this area "back in the day". They put on Hare Scrambles as well as numerous other events. Hats off to Rick as well for being such a strong leader in our sport for so many years.
Another gentleman from my youth was also in attendance, "Crazy" Jake Fischer. Jake put his trusty Husky thru the paces and provided some great entertainment as well. Jake brings along his own Trophy Gal, as the photo above attests to.... Personally, I can't thank Jake enough for his trying to kill me on numerous rides on his trail system "back in the day", truthfully, it was the greatest training for what laid ahead that I could have ever gotten and Jake knew exactly what he was doing... Thank you again Jake !
It was a great pleasure to meet Jerry Harris at the event, Jerry rode the 1975 ISDT at the ISLE of Man on a Can-Am and he now competes in AHRMA events.
My talk at the riders meeting was more a tribute to John Penton than anything else. From my first meeting with him as a young teenager when he fixed the tranny in my Steel Tanker and then recruited me to "go back to Pennsylvania and help him keep these Pentons running", and the time at Fort Hood Texas in my first ISDT Qualifier when after being black flagged during the final MX test when the throttle end of my handle bar broke off and he told me in no uncertain terms that "only you can decide if you should quit, NO ONE else can ever make that decision for you"! By the way, I refired my Penton and finished the MX with the throttle end of the handlebar jammed behind the front numberplate, and still got a Silver..:)
Rick, you asked if I had as much fun as the rest of you..:D:D:D
Paul

What a great job the club put on for that event. WANT TO THANK RICK HUTH AND DAVE KUTSKEL FOR A GREAT EFFORT.JAKE FISCHER
Here are a couple more photos added this week.

What are the white cans on the stakes near the bikes for?
Mick
Mick, that's a "walkie talkie" system. Like soup cans connected with a string.
I may be wrong.......
LOL
The organizing club did a vintage bike show in conjunction with their event. The bikes were judged by the attendees with each attendee getting tickets for voting when they entered the grounds, the attendees voted for their favorite bike by placing their tickets in the cans.
These guys have their act together. They did a youth event before the regular vintage race program, what a great way to get the next generation involved and educated about vintage motorcycling. I had taken a John Penton book along for the display I set up and offered it up to be presented to one of the youngsters, the youngster with the winning ticket seemed very pleased with his prize and hopefully enjoyed the read.
The POG was kind enough to supply me with postcards to present to the riders, the postcard was the one showing the Cycleliner "back in the day" with the riders lined up in front of it. This gesture by the POG was an overwhelming success with numerous folks asking questions about the Cycleliner and the Penton Sportcycles.

PS Jeff, us Martians no longer use tin cans and string to communicate....:)

Paul, you will ALWAYS be my "favorite" Martian!!!!!! :-))
Based on the math this would have been Jeff and Kathy in 1978. Sure would have been something to see a helmet go on that hair :D
Congratulations Jeff and Kathy!
"37 years of wedded bliss to my guy! Happy Anniversary honey! You're the best thing that's ever happened to me!! Love you!"
