I'm looking at getting a parts tumbler for cleaning up small parts and hardware. I've seen ones used by gun re-loaders for cleaning brass at a good price (around $35). I don't plan to use it a lot, just for occasional work. Any recommendations on these units and what type of media to use?

Don't waste your money, buy a small glas bead cabinet.
I had a tumbler and used it for cleaning parts. It doesn't work well. Do as Kip suggested.

Last year I bought a 5 lb vibrating tumbler from Harbour Freight for a restoration project. It worked really well on brake/clutch perches, nuts and bolts, and other small parts. Add walnut hulls and Mothers liquid metal polish, run for 8 or so hours and most of the parts polished up real good. For rusted parts, I soak them in vinegar first. A blast cabinet would be really handy also.
