Title: Tank Sealer
Post by: Mike Horton on October 21, 2015, 06:40:03 PM
When I bought my 73 JP the tank was coated inside with some type of white sealer.  One of the problems I have had constantly is the pilot getting plugged. I have an inline filter. Another JP I have which I don't even ride will fire up and run perfectly after setting months. Wondering if the gas is breaking down the coating which is clogging the pilot. I keep thinking that I read somewhere that the Kreme coatings may do this on non metal tanks ?

Kreme is only for metal tanks.

To be honest, in my 40+ years of playing with bikes, I have yet to see a steel or Fiberglas tank sealer actually work.

I am with Kip!  I have owned so many tanks that have had sealer only to turn into a nightmare.

Same here, sealers are a short term band aid.

I'll give a thumbs up for the Caswell product for f/g tanks.
It has protected my Norton for years.

Some caveats:
> Preparation per their directions is critical
> If the bike is not to be ridden for a few weeks, I still drain the E-10 fuel. And certainly drain it 100% for winter storage.
> I also leave it stored with the gas cap open to vent fumes.

Every tank (4 or 5) I prepped with Caswell, it has failed, and they were meticulously prepped.
