Title: MOTOR REBUILD
Post by: dawg on January 02, 2016, 12:03:43 PM
THE PISTON CRANK ARM HAS ABOUT .002 THOU OF PLAY UP AND DOWN DOES THE MOTOR NEED REDONE COMPLETELY? THE PLAY SEEMS TO BE AT THE END OF THE ARM BEARING NOT THE CRANK BEARINGS. I DID NOT NOTICE ANY TICKING MARKS OR SLAPPING OF THE PISTON ON THE HEAD WHEN I PULLED IT APART . I AM BORING AND REPLACING PISTON AND RINGS . THIS WAS AN ORIGINAL BORE SIZE AND THE BIKE DIDN'T APPEAR BE RIDDEN HARD JUST NOT MAINTAINED VERY MUCH. I WANT TO DO IT RIGHT BUT DON'T WANT TO SPEND $700 MORE ON PARTS AND LABOR IF NOT NECESSARY. ANY EXPERIENCE WITH THIS WOULD BE APPRECIATED

Did you have the crank out of the engine when you did the measurement?  I have found if you don't have the crank secured in a vise, it is very hard to get an accurate measurement.
