Title: What tires came on a '77 GS6
Post by: Bull Gear on February 16, 2016, 12:55:00 PM
Does anybody know what tires would have come on a 1977 GS6? The one I'm working on appears to have low hours on it. The ancient tires on it are Metzeler Moto Cross Enduros. Just curious if these might be the original tires? I do not plan to run them, but it would be interesting to know if they were.

Yes, Metzelers were standard

Thanks. Perhaps they were the originals, then. The Metzeler Unicross looks like the modern equivalent but are only available in 120/90-18 and 90/90-21. I suspect these would be too big for this 175. I suppose I'll just run a set of Maxxis Maxxcross 80/100-21 and 100/100-18 since I already have those on the shelf and I know they wear like iron.

Ugh, alas the original tires were just too petrified to deal with. As much as I hated to pitch them, I decided to go with some new Pirelli MT16s.

I wound up using one of the old original non weather cracked Metzelers for the front of my MX-6 175, but elected for a new Metzeler MC5 rear. The rears have a Vintage look to them but the new fronts do not, plus the Metzeler wording on the rear is similar to the old original with exception to the the metric size designation. Mike
