Title: VDO Speedometer
Post by: rcrump1 on August 20, 2002, 05:33:43 PM
Does anyone know if VDO speedometers can be disassembled and cleaned by us ordinary folks or do thay have to be sent off? If anyone here has done it I would like to get a blow by blow of the procedure. Are replacement parts available if needed?
Thanks to all.
Richard

I successfuly disassembled mine. After very
carefully prying the chrome ring that holds the glass on, I was able to remove the large nut that holds the mechanical components inside the cup. To reassemble, I put every thing back in the cup and crimped the chrome ring back on. You can still see the crimp marks, but it works fine. Whatever you do, don't take the odometer wheels off their frame. The little gears that link them all together are "timed". If you don't get them back correctly, the mileage will roll over at the wrong intervals.
