I have decided to keep and ride my 74 250 HS and need to purchase replacement chain and sprockets for it.

I am a novice rider. I will be doing mild weekend warrior riding, nothing serious.

Can anyone recommend sprocket sizes and chain size and length, and a source?

Also looking for a headlight, and a chain tensioner/brake stay.

I (myself, personally) would go, 520 chain and sprockets - size 13t/52t

It was a little trick back in the day, to use 520 sprockets and 530 chain. The extra opening in the chain let mud and dirt fly out, and help chain lube get in. Just a consideration. Goosd for the big bore bikes, not so much for the tiddlers.

My 76 came stock with 530 chain, back in the day it was a good choice because it would out last a 520 chain, but that is no longer a problem. even the cheaper chains of today are better than the chains of the past. Don't scrimp on a chain, the cost difference is not that much compared to what you get. Don't bother using a 530 chain unless your going to do some really gnarly backwoods riding. They are significantly heavier than a 520 chain. al should be able to set you up with a good set of sprockets.
