Thank you Dennis!
We love you too!
Al
I'll be there and I am bringing my '82 Husky 430WR for former National Enduro champ Mike "Snake" Melton to ride. My friend Craig Hayes says he is working on a new Husky Auto to Terry Cunningham. All we need is for Dennis to get Mark "Possum" Hyde to come and with Rudder we will have most of the '82-'83 ISDE teams.
Brian
Brian,
If you can get Mark Hyde to ride most likely Wally Wilson would come along! He's part of that team as well. Wally has a pristine 82 430XC he can ride!
Let me know...

Dennis Brown is near Mark Hyde and can get ahold of him to twist his arm. If Dennis did not have something for him to ride I could get my 82 250XC ready by then.
Brian
you guys are very subtle. I will call mark.and I will ask him.he can ride my 85 250 wr husky if he likes.

Dennis,
Just remind Mark how well Dianne and I fed him at the '99 Honda Hoot Carolina Dual Sport Adventure Ride.
That should get him here.
I don't think I've seen him since he went to work for KTM almost twenty years ago, and it would be an honor to have him at The White Lightning.
Quick story: The most surreal experience I have ever had was treating Mark, Scott Summers, and Gary Bailey to lunch at the Wayehutta OHV Riding Area trail head, near Cullowhee, NC, and listening to them critique each others riding styles, each wondering how the other could go so fast. One of the many benefits I have received over the years as a wannabe hanging out with the cool kids.
Those cool kids include all of you who regularly attend our annual charity event.
I look forward to seeing you all soon.
Al "Lumberjack" Roof
Gosh this would be a long drive from my neck of the woods. I hear lots of great things though.

Come on down! The water is fine!
Our concerted effort to get the Terry Cunningham, Mike Melton, Mark Hyde, Dwight Rudder and Wally Wilson here for this year's White Lightning continues.
Dwight Rudder has been an ardent supporter/participant of our event since day one, and will be here.
Terry has attended twice before, Craig Hayes is working on a fresh Husky Auto for him to ride.
Brian Kirby is bringing his '82 Husky 430WR for Mike to ride.
Wally has a pristine '82 430XC he can ride, and Brian says he can get his '82 250XC ready for Mark to ride.
If we can pull this off we would have the '82-'83 ISDE Teams here.
Now my friend and fellow Dirty Old Men M/C member Bill Kniegge has committed to attending, and will try to get Greg Davis and Dick Burleson here as well. Among other high level position in motorsports over the years, Bill was the Vice President in charge of Marketing for Husqvarna in the U.S. from 1975 - 1980.
P.S. Dwight is the Coverboy on Paul Clipper's newly released book, "ISDE 1982: Povaska Bystrica, Czechoslovakia: The year the USA almost won", available now at amazon.com
I have invited Paul to join us, giving him an opportunity to sell and autograph his new book.
Just got my copy...a pretty neat little book...
BTW, if you think Mr. Rudder looks good in that cover photo...wait till you see the page 76 shot. Talk about riding in the attack position!
And a Pop Quiz...honor system...memory only...no looking it up.
Due to a variety of reasons (as Clipper's account reveals, some of them a bit unscrupulous of behalf of the organizers), there was only one American Gold Medal. Who earned that?

But he was no doubt one of the fastest woods racers ever...the tougher the course the better.

Al,
I spoke with Tim Shephard and he will be there! The reason I'm telling you this is because he is good friends with Wally Wilson! He said that he would give him a call and talk to him about it..
Now I heard from Wally saying that no one has contacted Mark Hyde about it yet... so now Mark knows a little bit that came from Wally.
I'm hoping I can make it but doubtful...Travel Volleyball & Travel Softball with my oldest daughter and it's overlapping!
I just wanted to update you!

Howdy folks,
I'm proud to announce White Lightning regular Mike Murphy, of the
new Preston Petty Products, has donated:
a Preston Petty MX Front Fender, autographed by Preston himself;
a Preston Petty Enduro I/T Rear Fender;
and a Set of White Oval Preston Petty Number Plates
to be raffled in order to raise funds for the Armenia United Methodist
Church.
An auction of an identical fender raised $1200.00 at Classic Dirt 12 in Australia. Let's see if we can top that!

I had both wrist done carpel tunnel in January.it is taking some time but will be ok for white lighting

Dennis, for once I should have listened to my wife about doctors. She tried to get me to go in October but I waited until January. That three months would have made the difference.
Mick
Hey Mick, Best of luck, hope it turns out well...

It's nothing serious, just a thumb knuckle that's been jammed, crammed, hammered and WFO for 50 years. Docs gonna cut off the growth, screw the joint together, and inject liquid protein between the knuckle to fuse the bones together.

Good luck Mick.
As Bette Davis said, "Old age ain't for sissies."
I'm saving money and nerve to get a new right shoulder joint. My thumbs need work too.
Party on!

One down. One to go.
Cool Bike Award trophies for our 9th Annual Carolinas White Lighting Cross Country Classic to benefit the Armenia United Methodist Church of Chester Country, South Carolina.
Our event is Rounds 1 & 2 of the American Historic Racing Motorcycle Association (AHRMA) John Penton / Preston Petty National Cross Country Series.
Waiting for the second jug to arrive.
We have had a lot of calls and e-mails today from folks worried about yesterday's snow, and its effect on conditions for the weekend's race.
Here on the banks of South Crowders Creek, thirty-four miles north of the race site, we got a couple of inches of beautiful, wet, fluffy snow from 4:00 A.M. Sunday until about 10:30 A.M. Sunday. Then the sun proceeded to come out brightly , the temperature rose to 49, and ALL of the snow was gone by 3:00 P.M..
Today drizzling rain started mid-afternoon, but is supposed to be gone by morning.
The ground has been dry around here the past several weeks. There was a burning ban in force over the weekend at the race site due to high winds and dry conditions. We are supposed to have high winds again tomorrow, which will dry us out again.
The long-range forecast for our race site is looking great right now at:
Friday, Sunny and 62. Low Friday night into Saturday morning is 46.
Saturday, 20% chance of rain early, and a high of 68. Low Saturday night into Sunday morning is 37.
Sunday, Sunny and 62.
We are looking forward to a beautiful and wonderful weekend of AHRMA racing.
Y'all come!
See you there, Al. :D

I would like to thank all of you who attended our 9th Annual Carolinas White Lightning Cross Country Classic to benefit the Armenia United Methodist Church of Chester County, South Carolina.
I surely hope you all had a good time.
I have to give credit where credit is due. Here is the list of volunteers from AHRMA, the Blue Ridge Pathfinders Motorcycle Club, and the Family Riders Motorcycle Club who make this event a success.
And this doesn't include the fine folks from the Armenia United Methodist Church who setup for and prepare the two delicious breakfasts, and the wonderful steak dinner.
