Title: Steering head races
Post by: Steve Minor on April 14, 2017, 05:59:50 AM
I'm going over a 77' 125 GS6 barn find and can't seem to remove the steering head races. They just pop out right? Any secrets?

They don't just pop out, takes a long punch and a hammer.

There are 2 holes in the top center nut. Use a punch to tap the top race out.
You will need to remove the fork stem from the bottom triple tree. Once removed you will see 2 holes when you turn it upside down. Use a punch to tape the bottom race out.
This applies to both the Ceriani and Marzocchi forks.

I have never had to remove the stem from the bottom triple clamp. There is just enough of the race sticking out from the back edge in 2 places to tap it with a punch and get it started and once you get it started it comes right off. Mike
