I'll SAY!! [xx(] Amherst Paul
If anything it seems they are adding more things to do and see. Beer Garden, AMA Partner's Display, Field Meet, and Pit Bike Races are all
pretty new. Hanging out with the group and Dale's food for three days - still priceless !!

If you go to the VMD website, under racing and scroll down to the MX tab there is a photo of a Husky rider. You can see the back half of the machine/rider he is chasing. Anyone see what it is?
Hint: the machine is in my garage ...
Some other news that has been tossed around over the past few months is still a work in progress. My Berkshire 100 (B2) is to be made available to race over the weekend. A second Berkshire (B3) is coming together nicely and the frame and the Wilford engine have been reunited. They have been separated since Doug completed the engine in 2003. The former owner Tim Weaver expressed the desire to have it available for someone to race. It too will be available this year for competition. Preparation for 2018 has already begun to have an additional two added (B4, B5) to form a race team of four total. A little something, for a special event, in a special year.
Youthful riders encouraged since the opportunity in the AMA class structure promotes/permits them.
To clarify my numbering system (B1) is the team managers 1970 steel tanker ;)

Dale, don't tempt me. ( although I don't think I qualify as "youthful")
I have a couple of Berkshires (in boxes) as well as a 72 six-day that may turn into. Berkshire. Thinking I may need to get one together for 2018.

So I am looking over the stuff for Mid Ohio and it looks to me as if the 100cc Class has been dropped. Opinions?
Larry P
Quotequote:The class winners in the hare scramble, motocross and road racing disciplines will be recognized as AMA National Champions and receive a highly-coveted AMA National No. 1 plate.
The years I was there, Trials was one of the disciplines you had to ride in order to get the Championship.
I would love to go back. The last time I was there was the first year the AMA took over. I think there were around 20 riders in the Trials competition. The year before that, there were 24 riders just in my class!
Looks like the numbers are getting better.
Just talked to the AMA and the motocross guys don't know why but Vintage 100cc has been dropped for VMD! What a shame because so many motocrossers back in The Day started in the 100 class. I guess we will no longer go to VMD. There are lots of other things happening there but I really loved racing the 100 there the most. Big Bummer!
Larry P
Well, you folks with the 100's can always go to Unadilla's MX Rewind. It's a blast!! And they have a class for the 100's.
Gordon there are AHRMA races that the 100 can be raced in but none other than the series is for a Number 1 plate.
Larry P
Ok, Got it Larry.
Also, I just visited the web site. I questioned in an earlier post from Dale why Trials wasn't part of the Vintage Grand Championship like it used to be, but I see it still is, according to the information page.
Larry, I'd have to say that the 100 class was my personal favorite!!!
In reading about there possibly not being a 100cc class I got to wondering what Dane Leimbach would do if he wanted to race an event but they didn't have a 100cc class....I can pretty much envision the little grin on his face as he thought about lining up with those "big bores"....Al Born as well, as he loved running 100cc machines. And you can rest assured they would not be looking to finish second !
Take it as a challenge and flood the line with those little red screamers and put on one heck of a show and maybe the class will be back next year. Sounds like a great race to watch.

"In 1968 my sponsorship was with Sachs and my sponsor was a quaint little shop in the northern California university town. Maybe you have heard of it! We used to call it Bezerkley, so now you know where all the long hair and beads came from. The shop was called Campus Suzuki and it also sold Sachs machines. The US importer supplied me with bikes and parts and sometimes, factory motors. I remember one race - an Inter-am in Salinas, California when Robert and all the Europeans rode the 500cc class and the Americans rode the 250cc Support race. Sachs did not have a 250 bike, so they stole the importer's personal "cheater bike" (a 125) for me to ride in the 250 race. Before the first moto I remember them telling me they were not going to tell the importer that they had touched the bike, unless I won the race! No pressure... the thing was a rocket. It holeshot in the san against the 250s and anyway I won overall. Sachs did a full page ad in "Cycle News" - 125 Sachs wins 250 Support class. So I guess the importer found out about it afterall!"

PICKERINGTON, Ohio — Fans of country music, rockabilly and high energy party rock are in for a treat at the 2017 AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days, scheduled for July 7-9 at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, Ohio.
The 2016 AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame Bike Show attracted nearly 100 bikes and their admirers.
The Old Bike Barn is sponsoring the Old Bike Barn Crossroads, which includes live music, the AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame Bike Show, club displays, a craft beer garden, vendors and more.
Performers during the three-day event include Beau Braswell, Death by Rodeo, Sneaky Pete and the Players and others.
The AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame Bike Show, presented by Old Bike Barn is scheduled for July 8.

And I know everyone attending the event this year is going to be rocking out to the great music we have scheduled."
Old Bike Barn (//www.oldbikebarn.com) is a mail-order parts and accessories business based in Columbus, Ohio. The company, started in 2001, offers a selection of custom and maintenance parts for vintage American and Japanese street bikes, café racers, choppers, bobbers and V-twins.

"In 2016, we celebrated our company's 15th anniversary at the event and helped out with the AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame Bike Show. This year, we are back with an all new format 'Old Bike Barn Cross Roads,' a concept we hope will bring new energy to the infield events."

AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days features inaugural year for youth vintage national championship classes
Hare scrambles, motocross, exhibition races among weekend events
May 03, 2017
PICKERINGTON, Ohio — Youth competitors will be able to vie for national championships in vintage hare scrambles and motocross at AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days, on July 7-9 at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, Ohio.
"We are really focused on expanding AMA vintage racing," said AMA Racing Projects Manager Alex Hunter. "We believe that featuring more youth classes will help grow and celebrate vintage racing. Youth classes have never been featured at AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days before. The addition of these classes puts the AMA on the leading edge of youth vintage racing in this country."
The youth classes are in addition to the full range of hare scrambles and motocross competition scheduled for AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days this year.
In hare scrambles, two new classes have been added: Vintage 125cc Junior (12-15) and Post-Vintage Evolution 3 125cc Junior (12-15). Both are national championship classes. Hare scrambles are Friday, July 7.
Four classes have been added to the motocross competition: Vintage Trailbike (9-13) class for Vintage 70cc to 100cc bikes, Vintage 125cc Junior (12-15) class for vintage 100cc to 125cc bikes, Post-Vintage Evolution 3 85cc Youth (9-13) class for post-vintage 80cc to 100cc bikes and Post-Vintage Evolution 3 125cc Junior (12-15) class for post-vintage 100cc to 125cc bikes.
Both are national championship motocross classes. Vintage motocross classes race on Saturday, July 8, and post-vintage classes race on Sunday, July 9.
Vintage classes are 1974 and older bikes. Post-vintage bikes are determined by the technology of the bike and vary, depending on the discipline.
Another addition for 2017 is an exhibition race, featuring a 50cc (4-8) Shaft/Shifter class. This a non-championship support class, which will be available Saturday and Sunday on the motocross track. There is no entry fee, but participants must be AMA members and must register prior to the race.
More information about vintage racing during the event is available at: //www.amavintagemotorcycledays.com/page/vintage-racing-2017.

AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days, featuring Riders of Kawasaki, will showcase Kawasaki racing stars
Co-grand marshals include Tony Nicosia, Steve Johnson, Gary Semics and Jeff Fredette
PICKERINGTON, Ohio -- Legendary racers and tuners who helped forge Kawasaki's reputation for performance in American motorcycle racing will be at AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days, featuring Riders of Kawasaki, July 7-9 at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, Ohio.
Co-Grand Marshals Tony Nicosia, Steve Johnson, Gary Semics and AMA Motorcycle Hall of Famer Jeff Fredette will provide rare insight into both the development of Kawasaki production models, as well as what it took to win on the track.
"This will be such a treat for Kawasaki fans," said Mitch Boehm, long-time motorcycle journalist and a member of the American Motorcycle Heritage Foundation Board of Directors, which raises money for the AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame. "If you've ever been wowed by the raw sound and fury of an H1, here's your chance to meet H1 and H2 legendary racer and tuner Tony Nicosia.
"Then there's Steve Johnson -- crew chief extraordinaire who built dozens of championship-winning bikes, including the famed GPz750 that Wainey Rainey used to slay a grid full of next-generation Superbikes in 1983," said Boehm. "In motocross, former AMA Supercross Champion Gary Semics has become one of the sport's most recognizable trainers. And, of course, the unmatched competitive longevity of Jeff Fredette's 33 Six Days medals speaks for itself."
The AMA affinity group for Kawasaki riders -- ROK, Powered by the AMA -- will be front and center throughout the event. Special ROK, Powered by the AMA, giveaways will take place all weekend. Both ROK and AMA members will also receive extra opportunities to win a new Kawasaki Z125 PRO that the AMA will give away on Sunday.
An annual fundraiser for the nonprofit AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame, AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days, featuring Riders of Kawasaki, offers vintage motorcycle racing, bike shows, seminars, demo rides, a swap meet with hundreds of independent vendors and much more.
Here's more on the co-grand marshals of 2017 AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days, featuring Riders of Kawasaki.
Tony Nicosia
Tony Nicosia had a varied and successful motorcycle racing career that stretches from mid-20th Century scrambles racing in Japan to road, drag and land-speed racing back in America. But he's best known as a key figure in the development of one of the most legendary production motorcycles ever made: Kawasaki's two-stroke triple, the H1 Mach III. Nicosia joined Kawasaki in 1968 to work on the then-secret H1 project, but he was not just a test rider. He competed prodigiously on H1s and set well over 100 drag- and land-speed racing records. Kawasaki went to great lengths to promote Nicosia's success, and the lessons learned through Nicosia's racing continually improved the model line, which added the 750cc H2 Mach IV in 1972.
Steve Johnson
Long-time Kawasaki test rider and mechanic Steve Johnson is one of motorcycle racing's most experienced tuners and crew chiefs. His career started impressively enough -- turning wrenches for Phil Read's 1971 250 Grand Prix title -- before he went to work for Kawasaki's factory motocross team, tuning the open-class KXs that powered Brad Lackey to the 1972 500cc AMA National Championship and Jimmy Weinert to the 1974 title. Johnson stayed active in road racing, developing the KR250 parallel twin throughout the mid-1970s. He became crew chief for Eddie Lawson in 1980-82 before engineering arguably the biggest tuning upset in AMA Superbike history. Working for the legendary Wayne Rainey's championship 1983 AMA Superbike campaign, Johnson coaxed enough mechanical talent out of the then-dated Kawasaki GPz750 to beat the next-generation Honda Interceptors. Johnson's success continued throughout the 1980s and 1990s with riders such as Dave Sadowski, Scott Russell and Doug Chandler.
Gary Semics
Gary Semics started racing in his early teens and was a factory rider by the age of 18. After winning the 500cc AMA Supercross title in 1974, he started racing for the factory Kawasaki team. Semics continued to win AMA Nationals, finishing second and third in points in the 500cc class in 1976 and '79. He raced on the U.S. Motocross and Trophee des Nations teams in 1977 before taking his talent and rigorous training regimen to the Motocross World Championship circuit. Semics retired from professional racing in 1985 and immediately launched his training school. Semics became one of the sport's premier trainers, working with amateur and pro racers alike, including Ryan Villopoto, Jeremy McGrath, Ezra Lusk and Steve Lamson. His popular video training series and books introduced his methods to the masses. Semics continued to compete in sportsman classes, and in 2012, riding a Kawasaki, he swept all three of his motos at the AMA Amateur National Motocross Championship at Loretta Lynns to win the AMA amateur national title in the Masters 50-plus class.
Jeff Fredette
Perhaps no off-road racer is more synonymous with Kawasaki than AMA Motorcycle Hall of Famer Jeff Fredette. Fredette started racing Kawasakis in 1983, and has barely slowed down since. Although he is best known for his 33 medals in International Six Days Enduro competition, Fredette, who was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2002, won the 1989 126-200 A class title in the AMA National Enduro Championship, the 2004 Senior 40-plus A class enduro title, and has collected more than 15 AMA Ice Race National Championships since 1984. He was named AMA Racing Sportsman of the Year in 1993 and the AMA Racing Vet/Senior Rider of the Year in 2010. Fredette has won numerous AMA Vintage Championships competing at AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days -- all on Kawasakis.

HAPPY 4th of JULY! See you all at Mid Ohio. NO RAIN PLEASE! [8D] P.A.B
I was never at Mid Ohio that it did not rain at least once. Maybe it will be different since I am not going.
Larry P
I was thinking about going - would be my first time. Is there any benefit to bring my Penton with me ? I was hoping to look around for a replacement fuel tank. Would there be a Penton there to possible sign my tank ?
Bring your bike. John and Jack will be there Saturday
Hats off to the brave souls that endured the rain and winds Friday. I drove over in the morning storm, visited a bit and drove home in the afternoon storm and could not believe the weather. Saw a lot of canopy frames in the scrap heap that day. Pray the weather is better on Saturday and Sunday for everyone.
