Not sure if anyone has noticed but it seems that Photobucket has turned off 3rd party hosting of photos to anyone who does not have a paid photobucket account. So any of us who posted photos here from photobucket and are not paid subscribers to photobucket have had all of the content we posted in the past replaced with a little icon instead of the pictures we originally posted. :(
I looked over the options they offer and the cheapest one I saw was $5.99 a month, kind of steep in my opinion. Anyone know of any free hosting services we can use in lieu of photobucket?
Thanks,
Kevin
I just posted on 6/24 had no problem. Just copy and paste URL.
Gary,
All of my posts that previously contained photos now look like the ones below. I have seen the same thing on other bike sites that I frequent. I would guess the Photobucket people are just working through their accounts one at a time shutting off access.

Photobucket wants $400 per year to continue using their 3rd party hosting.
I went to Smugmug and signed up for a plan for about 3.99/ month that allows for 3rd party hosting.
If you want photos re-posted in old post you will need to go into the post and insert new IMG files. I went in to the Penton Sale post and re-did the photos, but I'm not going to go back to all the other, so it's sad that they are now lost.

So all the years of pictures are now gone, that's just great.

IF you copy and paste the URL it works from photo bucket. I have a free account, this is from my account and it works for me.

Gary, look again, I am just seeing the icon instead of the photo you posted. Looks like it just took them a little longer to get you. Lousy situation, years of great information down the drain.
Thanks,
Kevin
Unless you want to give them $400 a year.
Plus, no warning they were planning on doing this.

I am not computer knowledgeable but what does it take for us to be able to put pictures here easily like it is on eBay or Facebook? Never understood the why of all the hassle to do pictures through photobucket. Again I did not ever even understand the how which is why I never put pics on here. I can do pics on other places real easy. I am sure there must be a good reason for how we did it so look forward to learning.

Every message board that I frequent all have the same protocol for posting pictures. Our group operates on a modest limited budget. Memberships and merchandise revenue fund our annual activities with little to nothing left over. Keeping in mind that there are likely double the number of individuals reading the posts than paid members. Maybe adding a subscription charge to use the message board would be the answer to being able to provide the service you desire.
There are a number of decisions to make when providing a website. Here are a few without going into any greater detail.
Host provider and operational expense.
Storage space.
Intellectual property rights.
Liability

Dale I appreciate your common sense approach to this problem. I say if people want to have the ease of posting pictures we find out the cost and as you say have a charge (say per year) to use this site. There are huge numbers of hits on this site which we used to report in the minutes. I am just saying that if people want this and will pay for it try and find out the cost. Thanks Dale for the incredible job you and other do for the Penton Owners Group.

So the answer is it costs more money for POG if we do photos different? The answers come across like I was challenging the way we do it or dissing those who do it. I just wondered why and how it works? Seems like the changes at photobucket make it a pay to do deal now also. Was just curious not ruffling feathers. I can do that much more direct. I was trying to learn. I try to answer alot of questions here but sometimes am sorry I ask something.

It's just a shame so much valuable visual info is being lost in the name of greed. Countless sites being affected, most who posted photos won't go thru the trouble of re- doing them & a vast majority of viewers aren't going to deal with photobucket. A picture is worth a thousand words is most likely an understatement when trying to see details in the restoration of these old fun machines!
What I don't understand, is that pictures that I have posted on one of my music equipment sites still display. Mike
All,
I just came across a patch we can apply to our browsers that will make all our previously posted photobucket images reappear without a paid account.
I have only been able to get this to work with the Google Chrome browser, but it works just fine. If you don't have the google chrome browser it is a free download.
To try it, from the Chrome browser navigate to the link below and click the "Add to Chrome" button. This will install the extension on your chrome browser. When this is complete, you will once again be able to see any photobucket images in all posts on POG and any other sites with images hosted from photobucket.

This forum has changed drastically without images. How about if a group of people join Photobucket together. Sharing cost. Each gets the password, and we each have our own "album" to use. ?
