Title: missed shifts
Post by: Chuckwoodard on August 30, 2017, 06:53:28 PM
Please advise.  This is my first Penton, 1974 125 Six Day with Sachs engine.  Heard alot about missed shifts and now am finding its true.  Can upshift and feel it do everything but engage.  I upshift 2 or 3 times and miss all gears.  When I down shift it appears to be in 4th ot higher gear.  Can someone shed some light on a fix?

Needs to be adjusted at the least but if it is worn the shift key may need replaced.  I think you can search here on shift adjustment.  Selector key replacement is a bit trickier not that adjustment is simple by any means.

Here's a brief introduction to adjustment and shift issue articles that are available.

What??? You mean they can be adjusted? I thought all Sach gearboxes were 12 speeds......6 forward gears and 6 neutrals. Just kidding. I'm sure you'll get it dialed in.

Just stay in 1st gear. It's less painful when you fall.

Neutral was always my safest gear.
