I was faced with a tear down of a 1975 Long Travel 125 Penton. The top cap of the 35mm front forks wouldn't budge even with my old socket and a few other tricks. The caps were so nice and I didn't want to damage them so I went on a search for a new 36mm socket. I found one one on Amazon that is for new oil filters and it is low profile. Worked great and saved the nice fork caps. Also, being low profile made the job a lot easier. The Socket is made by Motiv X Tools and the Model number is MX2336.

It sounds like a small detail, but I have seen so many destroyed caps I just try to save what parts I can.

You mean you didn't try a 16" crescent wrench first?

From the ones I have seen, it looks like the tool of choice are large vise grips unfortunately. Mike

I actually have a 35mm socket too, but it's not high tech like yours. It requires dismantling half the bike before I can use it!
