Title: V074
Post by: SouthRider on January 28, 2018, 10:19:59 PM
Iwas fortunate recently to liberate Steel Tanker #V074 from the Pacific Northwest and it is safe at home on the Gulf Coast awaiting tear down.

I say awaiting as I've decided to bring it up as-is to display at the 50th, along with my Don Burgess inspired CMF Berkshire.

The 68 needs a TON, and has had a rough life:

My goal is to restore it to an as ridden 1968 Enduro Bike, not a showroom queen. Will need a lot of help and advice - so please chime in, as well as keeping your eyes open for period correct parts.

The bike does have a lot of correct parts, but is missing as many and more.

Since I am coming to the 50th event I would love to find out what you have available that I might be able to pick up while I'm there.

Your consideration is greatly appreciated.

Having trouble posting images from onedrive - but if you right click on them and choose view image they will show up.

Good luck on your restore.  Hard part to find as in almost impossible is the 68 airbox.

Larry - if I have been reading correctly there were 3 air boxes used in 68. Am I correct?

2 different length painted ones, and on some bikes the round Husky style? On the Leroy Winters bike (v71), it has the round air box - wonder if it came with that or it was a choice? I need to see the brackets to maybe get a clue if there are any brackets left on my frame.

And the million dollar question - which would have been on this range of serial number?

My understanding is there were the oblong ones on 68.  I think the round ones have been used for two reasons.  One as an upgrade to get more air and the other on a 68 where the original is gone.  That is my understanding but I am not a steel tanker expert by any means,
