I'm planning on attending the AMA event in July. I've never gone to this event before but I see the pit bikes are racing this year and I recall some insanity issues with the little ankle biter bikes last year. I'd like to avoid the crazyness as much as possible. So what is the earliest date/time you can arrive and any tips on parking, pits, camping or anything else to be aware of for the weekend? What are "Must do" to put on my list? I'll be riding the PV MX and H/S races.

Pete,
Seems every year gets to be more mayhem! I know you can arrive Thursday but not sure beyond that. Besides the racing the swapmeet is a must. You will probably never see more Vintage stuff and bikes for sale than there. If you desire it is probably there. Finding it may be a trick but it is there. The POG tent is a must as much as possible. I always dig seeing the Wall of Death if it is there and it generally is. Never camped so can not help you there. Look forward to seeing you. Get tickets early to get a discount.

I talked to the AMA (Beth) about camping. She said that racers could camp for free in the "Racer area" which I would think is the Pit area. She said that this year there will be a "Family" camping area that will be no drinking, loud noise etc. Other than the free Pit camping the rest will carry a $50 camping charge for the weekend.
Are the pits or camping in general very crowded???

Pete, yes, always crowded, but you can find space. If you arrive early try to park/camp in the pits (gravel area up on a hill) because the racers are more sane than the crazies up on the hill!

We usually get there on Thursday around 2:30 or 3. Most of the gravel pit is full by then. We camped below the gravel lot in the field last year. It wasn't too bad noise wise. They did have some crazy stuff going on saturday night in the next field over. Your at the very end of the property so not too much crazy riding there.
We get there Thursday afternoon and stay in the family campground right across from the motocross track. It is generally pretty calm. I will be racing my Hare-scrambler and my 82 KTM.
