Title: 75 Penton Air Filter Fitment
Post by: lancestrahl on May 08, 2018, 11:22:09 AM
So I recently got in the correct twin-air filter for my 1975 250, and fitted the air filter cage into it. I see how it mont on the boss on the side of the air box (or at least appears to) but when mounted, it sits too tall to allow the air box cover to be reattached. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Lance

Are you sure you have the right cage? They made 2 different ones.

I believe I do, It was the one my uncle and with the bike. it was not installed when I picked it up from him, and its the only Penton he's had since 1976. I will get pictures tonight though and post them up. There's not an extra spacer between the air box cover and the airbag body I'm possibly missing is there?

Are you use a metal cover or plastic?

Hi, your filter cage should be about 3 9/16 wide x 6 1/8 tall, on the outside.
Something a lot of people never do first, is see how the cage (without element on it) fits up to the air box, before they put on the element. The cage will normally be about 1/16 to 1/8 clearance around the air box flange. You can easily form it by hand until it fits best.

The air box and cover are plastic.

Thanks for the dimensions Rob, I will measure mine this evening. I have placed the bare cage on the protrusion in the air box, and it seems to fit all the way down, but I will double check. Would the suggestion then be to slightly compress the cage until ti will fit, with the element installed, under the cover?
