Are you planning on coming to VMD this year? The York and Amherst 50th celebrations were very both very successful preludes to what should be another memorable weekend at Vintage Motorcycle Days :)
50th merchandise will be on hand all weekend and JP is expected to be with us on Saturday. If you have never visited Pentonville row lunch and dinner is provided on Friday and Saturday under the bigtop. Dinner Saturday is followed by our July meeting and an early celebration on John's birthday :D

It's on my radar but I'm watching the weather. If it looks like a mud bath I'll wait 'till next year and save my money. Latey central Ohio has had quite a bit of rain.

That's how you get the battle stories, like the wind storm on Fri last year, or the stifling heat in years gone by. It's what makes the trip memorable.
Where will Pentonville Row be loctated at the VMDs?

It's in the same place every year, down in the trees.
...down in the trees?
Sometimes I wonder why I bother to ask.
I guess I'll just listen for Sachs engines hitting false neutrals and follow that sound. [8D]

If you know where the AMA registration tent is as you come into the fairgrounds to head up hill towards the swap meet look to your right. My swap meet spaces are on the crest of that hill by the big tree and further right up against the fence is The Penton Owners Group

Hi Pete,
I hope this link takes you to the map as it should.... If you enlarge the map and look to the left of the demo ride area you will see spaces 66- 67 - 68 -69 also known as Pentonville...
There is a Zoom in feature just above the map.

Hope that helps,

Got it. Now I can just follow the numbers!

TooClose Racing will be there along with three friends I have dragged into XC vintage racing, one of them on a 79 KTM GS6 250 - Mr. Hollis Acombe if he hasn't introduced himself on the site.
I'll be honest - I'm very disappointed in the organization of the XC classes this year (maybe it started last year?). They have combined EVO-1 with Vintage for the noon race and guess what I race (drum roll) - an EVO-1 (my 76 MC5 175) and Vintage (my 74.5 Jackpiner). Also - am I missing something or have they eliminated Expert/Intermediate classes and designated certain classes (*) as being eligible for their grand championships. Maybe it will be more clear when I get there. And - one more thing - IS there a 60+ class? Always enjoy the courses, but I just might hold my hand up at the riders meeting and ask "WTF are you guys doing !?!"
Look forward to the wonderful POG hospitality, seeing fellow members, the flat track race night at Ashland, and some "just for fun" motocross on my bikes on Saturday. And as a former roadracer, I just STARE at those Power Rangers going round and round on the pavement. I miss it. I don't miss it. I miss it...
Thanks in advance to Dale and company for "Penton-ville".
Definitely hold your hand up at the riders meeting and ask "WTF are you guys doing !?!"
You might also note AMA is putting the EVO2 and 3 ahead of vintage so if it rains they can tear up the track for us vintage riders.
I for one am tired of 90 degree events and 100% humidity. September is when VMD should happen.
Family business has come up, I might make it. Not sure now. If I don't, save a thunderstorm for me!

BTW - currently doing heat-up/cool-down/check torque break-in cycles on my Gary Ellis special Jackpiner. I smoked top end after 4 great seasons (my fault - ask me at VMD). Thank you to Al Buehner for parts, Gary Ellis for advice. This top end rebuild ended up being a bit more chellenging than I thought (deck height correct with Wiseco, rings correctly positioned when assembling).
Oh - and it's 95 degrees out here in upstate NY! Work on bikes mornings and evenings. Almost there. [8D]
I entered the over 50 class EV2. That was the only choice I saw for 50+. Not much for skill levels.

A number of the trees have been removed in the past couple of years. I'm bringing along a shovel to work on the crater we had placed a bike over last year to keep folks from falling in....
Al is set up across from the POG tent along with a number of members. Pentonville should be fairly easy to locate [8D]

I would like to second the comment about the 90 degree temps. and the 100% humidity.
Cost and distance are factors, but when you add in the oppressive heat that is likely, it's kind of the deal breaker.
I was first there in '98 for MX in the infield. Then for a few years including 2000. Will get back there some day but in no big hurry.
Weather doesn't look too bad for the weekend. Highs in the 70/80's and lows in the 50/60's. T-Storms floating around before the weekend. Yesterday in Arkansas the heat index was 109 so I'm not too worried about Ohio temps.

The trip to Vintage Motorcycle Days admittedly gets a little more challenging each year. It still remains to be the best opportunity to experience a weekend of motorcycle pandemonium mixed with a heavy dose of new and old friends. Here the group generates a high degree of interest in the brand and a majority of the annual revenue comes in from merchandise and memberships. We will be honored to have JP with us on Saturday and providing an early 93rd birthday celebration after our dinner and meeting. Yes, I considered scaling back this time around but.... plans change. Pretty much all of the 24ft trailer, the bed of my truck, and the trucks interior are going to be packed with stuff. I've been pacing myself in the 90 plus degree heat and do the home load/unload over several days. See you folks that make the trek in a couple days ;)

Dale,
Can you list the POG meeting time for up coming Satuday?
Also if any other events times at Pentonville?
Thanks
John Capp
All three days there will be display of bikes under and around the tent. Expect to see some memorabilia, friendly faces, and hopefully answers to any questions. JP is expected to be on hand Saturday only for conversation and signatures. His presence certainly changes the dynamics and activity level and a wait to see him can be expected.
Plan on assembling for Saturday dinner around 4:30 - 5:00. Actual time varies due to number of volunteer servers enlisted, weather, and the menu cooperating [:p]
Chef Dale always puts out an unbelievable spread and if you are a first timer expect to have your hunger pangs satisfied [:p][:p]
Meeting and cake to follow not necessarily in that order [:p][:p][:p]

We came, we saw and we went. A beautiful weather weekend with friends old and new. JP certainly upped the activity with his presence on Saturday. Thank you all!!
Expect a link to photos in the future. Bill Smith was out and about snapping shots as well [8D]

At my first VMDs I learned two things.
1. Look out for all the "Pit Bike" traffic. [:0]
2. I need to bring a "Pit Bike" next year. ;)
Had a great time at the "Woodstock" of vintage motocycle gatherings.
