Title: Vintage Erich.

A post led me back to the Australian archives.  These came up when I searched KTM which had a sub folder Erich Trunkenpolz.

Pretty neat stuff Dale,

A couple of questions, were the pics in the Australian archives or the Austrian archives?

And did they spell his name Erich, in the book and in other paperwork it usually is Erik?

In the last photo a rider is sitting on machine # 110 and the caption refers to # 119.

In the last photo if that is Erik on the machine, I wonder if that is his father congratulating him. It may just be my old tires eyes, but I think there is a family resemblance between those two.

Thanks for the post.

Paul

I could claim the answer to your first question is an auto fill text issue (but we don't have one).  Captions were a copy and paste from the website with a date added.  Link provided :)

What is the story behind the 1953 tiger logo?

The Tiger logo was on the first motorcycles they produced the R100.  At that time they put out 3 motorcycles a day with 20 employees.  Their first official Company logo was the next year in 54.  Today KTM has over 3,000 employees and produces over 200,000 motorcycles a year and does over a billion dollars of business.  A great travel story and an awesome bike that includes our beloved John Penton and his fantastic motorcycle.  In my mind they are still Built For Champions!

I'd be interested in buying some "Tiger" logo decals if someone could reproduce them. I think they'd find a place on a few of my tanks....
