Another great day at the York swapmeet, sold a lot of goodies,a lot of nice bikes for sale and had a big turnout. A thanks to Lee Buffenmyer for Pentons on display. Thanks to Dale Fisher for coming to sell Hats and Shirts and taking care of the P.O.G. sign-up. Glad to see a lot of Ohio people. I got a great photo of Paul Danik from the ISDT.This would look really good on the next Penton T-Shirt.Paul needs to be recognized for all he does for P.O.G. and his riding on Penton race team. Its long over due. John signed a ton of autographs. He truly is the Iron Man.Jack and Paul Backed him up at table so he would not get over run. Our main Penton parts man Al Buehner was selling parts and Dale Buehner the sticker King was selling stickers and supplying us with some of his great homemade goodies. It was a great day, great weather. Thanks to Tony,my son,and Bryan Howell my son-in-law for doing all my work for me. There are some advantages to being an OLD MAN. See you all at Vintage Days.
Greetings,
AS Bob has already stated it was another great day at the York swapmeet, but just how great of a day it was is just now coming into focus.
I have been informed by the PVR that this years attendance at the swapmeet set a new attendance record for the event, which if you were there shouldn't come as any surprise. The Potomic Vintage Riders have expressed their thanks to the Penton Owners Group for attending the event and creating the display, and I surely wanted to pass those kind words along to all of you who worked diligently to create and man the display.
Lee Buffenmyer did an outstanding job of heading up the Penton Owners Group efforts at York. Not only did Lee have the display planned out in great detail, he also had a very nice line up of Penton machinery arranged to display, including some of his own very impressive machines. Thank you Lee for another job well done.
Dale Fisher just may have earned the award for POG member who drove the longest distance just to work the entire time, and work he did. Dale is very much like a well prepared Penton enduro machine, constantly getting the job done no matter what is thrown at him. There were times when Dale had a line of folks asking for 9 different things at one time and he just kept his motor running and handled each request in a very professional manner. Thanks Dale, you make it all look so easy, but rest assured we all know better.
The gentlemen above as well as many others contribute tirelessly to the mission of the Penton Owners Group, not only at events such as York, but numerous others as well and you don't need to look very far to see where their passion and drive come from. Like Bob mentioned above, John Penton surely is an Iron Man, but one with a heart of gold.
It is sometimes hard to envison that the 93 year old gentleman sitting at the table and signing item after item with such grace and sincere appreciation for the oportunity to do so, is the same guy who in his day would knock down an oak tree looking for a bit of traction and never flinch. Yes, John Penton did sign hundreds of items at York, but the images that are most engrained in my mind are of the little children standing in line with their mom's and dad's waiting for an autograph. I approched one mom as her 7 year old daughter was about to meet John and inquired as to how this came about. The proud mom stated that her daughter had watched the John Penton movie with her dad and had wanted to meet John, how incredable is that!
There are surely many, many more folks who deserve thanks for their efforts and rest assured your efforts are all greatly appreciated. And as for John Penton, well John, even us big kids are still in awe !
Paul
I would like to give thanks to the guys that brought bikes for the Penton display. Rick Snyder a very nice 1971 steel tank Six-Day MX and a 1975 Six-Day enduro. Sandy Quickel 1974 Berkshire that he rode in qualifiers back in the day. Mike Slate a beautifully restored Penton Flat Tracker. Lee Buffenmyer
