Considering racing vintage mx on a 1978-81 twin shock KTM 400/420 if I can find a nice one! Prefer a 1981 KTM 420, but I'm sure there all gone! Thanks Jon
In AHRMA the 1978 is at a distinct disadvantage in the suspension department. It is barely over 9 inches and has 38mm forks that need damping work to even reach their full potential. The 80-81 has 12 inches and the 40mm forks have not only got less flex but the damping is pretty spot on. That is my 2 cents worth on which one to race.

I agree Larry.
I am in California, putting together a 420, will be a couple months though. Reed valve, big Mikuni, custom pipe, not ready for photos yet.
I have an '81 420 I would consider selling. Enduro set up, original except rear fender, low hours, runs good. Not cheap. Let me know if you haven't found one. Thanks, Rick
