Title: 32 mm fork length question
Post by: Rick Bennett on April 30, 2020, 01:43:27 PM
I have two different length 32 mm forks. Was the change to the longer forks made with the high breather frame?

The length change to the longer tubes was made in 1972 when they started using the heavier triple tree clamps that have two bolts for each clamp. The early 1972 100 and 125's had the lighter triple tree with one bolt and shorter fork tubes. When the Jackpiner was first introduced they started using the heavier triple tree on the Berkshires and Six Days as well. If memory serves me correctly this change occured on bikes produced around April of 1972. Bikes produced before then had the lighter triple tree and shorter fork tubes. The Pentons evolved quickly. I had five 1972 and 1973 Six Days in my shop at one point and not one of them were the same. Speaks well of John Penton's drive for continuous innovation!

Then there was a change in rake??? or was the frame changed to match?

No change to the frame. The heavier triple clamp pulls the tube upward about 3/4".

Cal is so correct about the two different triple trees.  I have seen people mix and match them (they wouldn't work) and or  buy something on ebay that didn't match.  Thanks Cal for the explanation.
