Title: Repairing a Speedometer Drive
Post by: 61rover on February 25, 2021, 01:43:45 PM
When I purchased my JP 175 it had a VDO drive unit on the front axle.  Upon inspection, I found that the cable end is stuck in there.  There's just a bit of frayed cable to get a grip on but so far it won't give.  Any ideas on how to get that out of there?

John,

There is a worm gear inside there the cable get can bound to after long periods without lubrication. I would recommending rotating the pins on the pickup unit in a clockwise direction when pulling on the cable with a pair of pliers.  If that does not work, bring the unit and cable to the bench and pull the unit apart to free things up.

Thanks,

Kevin
