Title: Steel Tanker Year Model Question V935
Post by: holeshothawk3 on September 10, 2021, 11:42:16 PM
Hi everyone,
I just rescued a Steel Tanker V935 as of yesterday. I know from my research here it seems that up to V12xx was produced in 1968. Is there anyway to know what year model my bike actually is? I've been chasing a 68/69 steel tank for awhile and finally got one. I'm very excited to start this resto! Thanks

It is a first year 1968.  Nice find.

If it needs the correct 4 bolt rear hub or correct elongated airbox there is a fairly large club you can join.  If not you are a lottery winner on a small scale anyway.

holeshothawk3,

Greetings, possibly you are quite familiar with the evolution of the Steel Tank Penton from the very early ones to the last ones to roll off the assembly line. But if not, and if you would like to learn more about your particular machine I would suggest that you print out the Steel Tank Penton Questionnaire and try to answer as many of the questions as possible. Here is a link to it.  https://pentonusa.org/steeltank/steeltank.pdf

To help with the answers there are a number of corresponding photos that will help you to identify some of the differences. All in all a good bit of info can be gained from doing this and you just might find it to be fun. Link to the photos is below.

Have fun and don't be afraid to ask questions.
