I want to get back into vintage ahrma racing .. I have raced back in 1995 in the vintage class on a Penton 250.my last race was the Steve McQueen memorial in Eugene Oregon in 1974ish.
Now, Im thinking about building a 74.5 Mint 400 .. but first I need to find out if they are legal in the 74 and prior vintage class ?
Any input is very appreciated.
Technically I think not but... I have seen several racing vintage class with the shocks mounted in the "standard" position, which gives rear suspension travel similar to early 74. Most tech inspectors are not super picky when it comes to stuff like that. I've seen people get away with a lot more 🤣.
Thanks Carl for that information, Jaan
you can take this to the bank, yes, the 74 1/2 mint 400 is vintage ahrma vintage legal. it's what i race in ahrma vintage classes. and i'm on one of the ahrma rule committees chicago herry
Thanks Jerry,
I really needed that confirmation. now I need to find a core to restore or build one from parts.
I understand that a 75 400 frame is the same as a 74.5 Mint, with the exception of the chain guard brackets. and frame number. if so, could I use a 75 frame ?
thanks, Jaan
I also have a 74.5 Mint 400 that I race in the AHRMA vintage class and as others have stated the shocks need to be run in the upright position to minimize rear wheel travel to 4" or less I believe
As long as the suspension fits the 4" rear and 7" front travel requirements.
