Some folks have asked if they can drive their truck / trailer to the POG display area in the infield of Mid-Ohio to unload their bikes, the answer is YES.
The photo was taken in John Penton's backyard and is of the last of the Cycleliners which had been repurposed as a delivery vehicle for Hi-Point trailers. I was told that 2 would fit on the truck with another being towed behind it if needed.
I was told by the gentleman who helped to run the Hi-Point trailer business with John that at times when a potential customer was on the fence about buying a Hi-Point trailer, he would attempt to seal the deal by telling the customer that if he did buy the Hi-Point trailer, he could arrange for John Penton to personally deliver it. He said that this tactic usually sealed the deal, what the customer didn't realize was that JP did most all of the deliveries!
As JP, Al Born and I were on our way to VMD in California in 2000, I pointed out to John a rest area that was high above the interstate on the east bound side of the highway. John laughed and said that one time while heading home from delivering a couple of trailers out west, he stopped in that rest area for a powernap, only to wake up 7 hours later !
"Talk about putting the coal to it" he said about the rest of that trip home.
