The Walkin' on Wednesday event in Amherst, Ohio is gaining steam almost hourly as more and more folks are committing to attending and bringing their Penton or Pentons to display. With that being said, less than 48 hours after the Amherst, Ohio event is history, there will be a caravan of Penton Owners Group folks heading to New Berlin, New York with their Pentons to set up another Penton display.
In recognition of John Penton's upcoming 100th birthday, and at the request of the track owners, the Penton Owners Group will have a display at the upcoming Pro National at Unadilla this Saturday August 16th. The POG display will be in conjunction with the Legends and Heroes display and will consist of 6 Pentons plus the KTM raffle bike. If any of you will be at Unadilla, please be sure to stop by and hang out with us for a while.
If John had just kept the Cycleliner, we could have opened up the rear door, set up the ramp and loaded up the machines and all hit the road together, just like in the old days!
Listen to this news, John Penton movie creator Todd Huffman has found a Crown bus in good condition, which was what the Cycleliner was based upon, and his dream is to find a way to recreate a Cycleliner that could be used to help to tell the Penton story. How cool would that be ! At this point Todd's dream is just that, a dream, but the Penton Sportcycle was just a dream at one point, as was the John Penton movie, so some dreams DO come true. All I can say is stay tuned and keep wishing upon a star.
One quick Cycleliner story.... I was at the wheel of the bus in a city out west when a rather tight left turn came up, I went to give the brake a touch, but my foot ended up against an opened vent door next to the brake pedal. As the turn came up, I just wheeled the bus around the turn and being as the bus had airbag suspension, it leaned to the right quite a bit as we went through the turn and a few things fell of the workbench in the back, soon enough we were through the turn and the bus rightened itself back up. " It looks like Paul is starting to get the hang of driving this thing" Dane hollered out. I was pretty puckered up at the time, and it sure felt good to laugh at Dane's comment along with the rest of the guys. Todd, if you get that bus, I will be glad to demonstrate how far it can lean in a turn!
As for the POG display this Saturday at the Unadilla Pro MX, I wonder if the POG display will make the TV coverage of the event, or better yet, I wonder if they will have the entire crowd join in the singing of Happy Birthday to John Penton. Stay tuned folks........and be sure to stop by the Penton display at Unadilla if you are at the event, or maybe we will see ya at the Amherst event, or maybe both !
Below are a few Cycleliner photos from days gone by, who knows, maybe someday you too can have your picture taken in front of a Cycleliner!
