Title: air boot to fiberglass airbox mod
Post by: chicagojerry on August 24, 2025, 08:09:53 PM
hi all. does anyone have a suggestion on possibly using an automotive cv joint boot between the carb and the fiberglass airbox? putting a mikuni on a 400. i can stretch the small end of the stock boot to fit over the carb but i don't think it flows air well. the waffles of the boot get scrunched up restricting the airflow. so im hoping that someone has found a cv joint boot that works better.  chicago jerry

Jerry,
Take a look at flexible rubber couplers for PVC pipe. Maybe you can find one in the size needed to fit the carb and airbox. Good luck !

FWIW: I've used CV boots and the Femco couplers (and they're both holding up fine) on a few my Maicos with Mikuni carbs.  For the CV boot I used one for Ford Focus or Fusion, if I recall. Also used a Femco coupler on my DKW 125 Enduro, fitted with a Mikuni 28mm.  Tight fit, but it's held up well.
