58 years ago today, March 7th 1968, the first ten serial production Penton Sportcycles arrived by airfreight in Cleveland, Ohio. Doug Wilford's dad, Wally, was dispatched by John to pick up the bikes and haul them back to Amherst, and the fun began !!!

From photos I have seen, I believe the bikes were uncreated and put together in the area of the old original Penton Motorcycle Agency. As the story goes, within a day six of them were on their way to the Stone Mountain National Enduro to be ridden by Dave Mungenast, Tom Penton, Leroy Winters, Al Born, Larry Maiers and of course John Penton.

If you find all of this Penton history to be interesting, be sure to read the John Penton book.

The photo is of Al Born on Penton serial number V-003 taken in Georgia a day before the Stone Mountain event.
