How did KTM secure the front of the gas tank on the 78 model year bikes? The GS I am working on had a rubber strap holding the rear of the tank, but nothing on the front. Were they still using the leather straps?
Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Richard.....I can't say on the GS model, but I can on the MC model. There is a bracket welded on the front of the frame with a rubber bushing on it....the front of the tank fits under the bracket and the rear of the tank is held fast with a rubber piece, a bracket and a big "hose clamp"....I emailed you a scanned page from my 78 mc5 parts manual.
