Title: 73 Harescrambler heat shild/# plate
Post by: DB on January 24, 2003, 04:05:13 PM
Did any of the late 73 yellow tank models have the combined heat shield/#plate in the yellow/green colors or was this an after market addition? I thought all the 73's had the seperate #plate with a metal heat shield but I'm not sure. Thanks,David

Hello David,
If I had to bet, my guess is that all gold (73)harescramblers had the seperate metal heat shield and # plate.
The 1 pc. unit was first introduced to some riders, sometime in late 73, pictures from the ISDT that year held in Sept. show our guys bikes don't have them, but Penton riders from other countries do. In the Feb.74 issue of Keeping Track, it shows the new 1 pc. part as first being available as an after-market add-on, in white only/ you paint. Also in a Apr. 74 issue of MXA, they test one of the last gold 250's, and it has the seperate metal heat shield.
Very cool bike, good topic, someone may be able to prove me wrong.

I have seen them both ways in original photos.  The late 73 in some cases had the combo.  In turn, I have also seen early 73's with aluminum fenders.  Go figure!!!

I have a brochure that shows the 250 with the aluminum fenders from 73.
